Later it is stated that a quarter of the illegal immigrants (my term) are also in California. I'm sure there isn't any connection.

They are separate issues. The homeless problem is not caused by the illegals. You will find that the Mexicans are very family oriented. They take care of their own. Multiply families will live together in one home. That provides a lot of safety for them. They would not be safe in these homeless camps and their kids would be exposed to a lot of drug use.

Apparently we now have a second Caravan on it's way to the US. Also looks like Mexico is resisting entry.

The violence is so bad in Honduras and Guatemala they want out, can't say I blame them. I wouldn't want to live in a $hit hole country either.

But if the violence is so bad how come the UN has not become involved instead of sitting on their fat A$$ collecting millions of dollars. If the gangs are so bad, send in an army of mercenaries and wipe them out.

Make these countries worth while living there.

I pretty much agree. I don't know what the role of the U.N. is. You might say the same thing about Syria, i.e. why didn't the U.N. stop Assad's butchery?

I'd like to see the U.S. step forward to help make these central American countries livable, instead of simply being monstrously inhuman to those fleeing for their lives. Can't we simply deport Trump and family back to Russia, to start with?

Numbers of which are really insignificant in the grand picture of the real problem; being played up as a political misdirection tool.....

Here's where these really big companies making their products in China might re-think that and move everything to Central America, jettison all of the China problems, shorten the import distance, and solve a lot of other problems. Those jobs are not coming here anyway. Maybe solve other problems for once might be considered.

Slovenia......... Czechoslovakia........... Whatever......

When did that become our job? How could it possibly become our job?
That is, if you were well aware that a house next door, and one a couple blocks away, were dangerous places for the inhabitants, could you leave your domicile and invade those other homes, even if folks were trying to escape them?

Instead, we would call the proper authorities to investigate and try to help in positive ways. Right? (You do see the analogy?)

So, making other countries worthwhile to live in, is not our job, nor our responsibility.

I submit that viewpoint for your consideration.

Maybe it is when they show up on our doorsteps and we'd rather turn them away then let them in. Maybe addressing the source of the problem solves the problem. Going isolationist just makes it worse at the end of the day; problem remains unsolved and now you're perceived as part of it.

True. I see them. (And I have done my individual part to help, personally.) However, do we know that every single one of them at that gate/door is well motivated and righteous? I guess its not a simple matter, is it.

The causes of the distress are not simple. The results are not simple. Any possible solutions will not be simple.

Now, I'm getting "it" ? I wasn't aware I had missed something. Where and what, precisely, had I not understood? Edify me, kindly.

Not YOU, personally. I agree with your analysis and my comments are directed at the "royal you", aka anyone that subscribes to simple solutions to almost any problem. Putting a bucket under a roof leak fixes the immediate problem of not getting water on the floor. It doesn't address the real issue of why the roof is leaking and what do I need to do to fix that.

Indeed. No real simple solutions yet a lot of our citizens seem to believe that such solutions readily exist.

We have given these countries including Mexico millions of dollars over the years. So throwing money at the problem is not a solution.....

We've done nothing but apply simplistic approaches, mostly reactionary knee-jerk ones, rarely bothering to address real problems and to try real solutions. That's all too hard to do, so as Americans, we throw money at problems thinking that will make them go away. Well, that all depends on how it's thrown, to who, and how it's applied. I'd posit that per our usual practices that we've probably been pretty incompetent at foreign policy towards the Central America as a whole for nigh on 100 years now.

Why cant this group of 2000 strong make a change? I see people capable of walking 1000 miles. Trough all kinds of conditions. Why can't they stay home, join together and punch their suppressors, drug dealers and extortionists in the face? Fight for justice on your own turf. Once they get a job here. They will forget about the problems at home and the problems will continue. Is it just easier to come to the USA and get handouts?

Have you tried punching out a group do guys with machine guns that have the police and local military in their pockets recently No? Well, let me know how that works for you.

I don't think that they want handouts like far too many of our existing citizens. I think that a lot of them want to do the jobs that our citizens won't do anymore.
