Yes, those are Galeri. I started with the tasselated strings of the Cardinal's Galero; then included part of its wide brim, and eventually all of it, included among the company of other hats that had been hoisted up to the Holy Name rafters...

Legend has it that a Cardinal's Galero hangs until it disintegrates naturally, signifying that his soul had been released from any suffering and has gone to Heaven, finally, signaled by the Galero crashing down to the floor below.

As a footnote, Cardinal Spellman's Galero has not fallen as yet from its place near the rafters of St. Patrick's Cathedral, in NYC. Most Catholics I know have their own interpretation of why that might be, in his case.
