Consider what the base numbers of unemployment have been for the past 40 years. That really has not changed all that much - ups & downs - but the base number over time is pretty flat. One of the main reasons for unemployment has been a population lacking adequate skill sets to move with and when the economy shifts and/or the refusal to accept and plan for such changes. It's more complicated than just pointing the finger of blame at whatever despite that being the easiest of convenient answers. Case in point, early 80's the employment market basically crashed for Chem E's unless you were the top 5 graduating from one of the top 10 schools; my wife spent a year unemployed until she became an EE in 6 months basically by answering a DoD advert.

In the sciences, including medicine, the base rate is critical for comparison, so Rufus, coming from that population (science and medicine) understands just what "Base Rate" is.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) calculates the number of citizens in the Civilian Labor Force (CLF, persons classified as Employed or Unemployed) at 157,833,000 (49% of the U.S. population) and in the Not-in-Labor-Force citizens at 94,610,000 (29% of the population).Jan 12, 2016.

In January, 2016, the base unemployed rate was 5%. That means 5% of 157,833,000 were unemployed (7,891,650 people.) And 95% of 157,833,000 were employed (149,941,350 people.) Math check: 149,941,350 + 7,891,650 = 157833000. Check!

The news reported this morning that since Trump has been in office a million new jobs have been created. The jobs that Obama said weren’t coming back.
With the corporate tax cuts perhaps Atlas will consider setting up shop back home.

The vast majority of job creation shown in the graph above came on Obama's watch. That said, we give presidents much too much blame or credit for economic events that are in reality outside anyone's control. Hence the repeated recessions and recoveries unrelated to the party or person in office. Nonetheless, the job creation since January 2017 is a tiny proportion of the job creation since the recession peak of unemployment. And almost all of the job creation in 2017 and 2018 is totally independent of anything our current President has done or not done. Facts is facts .

The company that Atlas was using was Affatech owned by K.K. Ku, (originally a manager at Sanda Kan.)

K.K. Ku wanted to retire, and none of the family wanted to run the business so he shut it down. Just part of the facts of life doing business in China. Toy train makers today with production in China do not even have full control/ownership over their own tooling. when you tool in China you own 47% of what you pay for.

When the manufacturers moved production to China in the late 1990s,,They were making a deal here from which there is no return. Once you go to China, China takes ultimate control of what you bring with you. That’s how they have grown to be what they are, western companies gave them everything they had in order to save big on production costs.

there is a good chance that an internal manager or several employees will open their own factory and continue to support Atlas.

I suspect that the Chinese doing the teaching will speak better English than most residents of the US.
