Styx was the only rock concert I have ever been to.

That's one more than I've been to. I had arranged to see The Clash with a friend, but I got too stressed out about it. I don't feel I missed out on much, because we had a lot of clubs in the area, including the Whisky-a-Go-Go. I went to most of them, and saw many of the younger acts, such as X, The Dead Kennedys and The Germs.

Later, I lived catercornered across the intersection from the Berkeley Community Theater (a.k.a. the high school auditorium!) In the mid-80s, The Grateful Dead played there often, but I never cared enough to go see them. From my window, I could see all the old schoolbuses.

Been to many live events over the years, in many venues. First up was The Who's Next tour back in '71 or so, at the Spectrum in Philly as I recall. At a time when Daltry/Townsend et al were just a bunch of punks, it affected me profoundly. Continued on through the 1970's and 1980's, Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon, Lyric in Balto, '72), Genesis (too many times to list), Zeppelin (Capital Center, DC, '77), ACDC (Highway to Hell, Towson Center, '79), Springsteen (Born in the USA, Capital Center, '84), Proclaimers (Sunshine on Leith, Merriweather Post, '89 or so), Depeche Mode (Songs of Faith and Devotion, Merriweather Post, '94), U2 (a number of times, last being the 360 tour, M&T stadium, Balto, 2011, with my children). Too many others to list, really. Threw all of the tickets in a box, which is fun to go through on occasion.

I can recall coming out of some of these shows with my ears ringing, which probably accounts for at least part of my hearing loss in old age. Preferred arena/stadium venues over the "intimate" settings. I always wanted the bass player's riffs to hit me in the chest like a sledgehammer, not listen to some guy plucking on his acoustic guitar in a coffee bar (although I can appreciate both).

"People try to put us d-down (talkin' 'bout my generation),
Just because we get around (talkin' 'bout my generation),
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (talkin' 'bout my generation),
I hope I die before I get old (talkin' 'bout my generation)."

There's something to be said for that.

Let's see now. I went to hear and see Stan Kenton, the Glenn Miller Band, Benny Goodman. Les Brown, the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force and
Coast Guard Bands, the Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, Marion Mc Partland, Dean Martin etc.
Never heard any of those mentioned above. :D

I've seen a number of the big bands, or their remnants, over the years, Roger. I did manage to catch Duke Ellington a couple years before he died. Glenn Miller's orchestra, which of course it is not, is coming to Balto in a few weeks...I'm thinking about heading down for that. Would loved to have seen Tex Beneke and the Modernaires, with Miller's orchestra...must have been something.

Last concert I went to was King Crimson in DC on the Thrak tour; I was going to see the current line-up of King Crimson last Oct and was visited by kidney stones and so missed them; sent my son instead of wasting the ticket.

I have never been to what I call a Rock Music concert. I have no good definition of what that even is. My son has probably never been to concerts of
the type I would attend has seen many of the big name rock stars and groups. Of course I have heard some rock and modern pop music, it's hard to
avoid. In my younger days ( oh yes I was young once ) I heard all types of music and played many different types also. One musician who is probably considered to be rock whose music I liked much of was/is Rick Wakeman. I mention this to point out that I was not confined to certain types only.

I listen to many of the music things referred to on MTJ by various posters and find some to be interesting, some boring and some just awful, IMHO.
But all of this is what makes music and toy trains interesting. Something for everybody.

Concerts I've attended:
+Rachmaninoff's: +Second Piano Concerto; +Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. Both events were soul-reaching.
+ Handel's Messiah.
+ Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
+ Jefferson Airplane.
+ Fabian. ( )

I lived in So Cal for 30 years. 50s 60s & 70s. Went to high school with the guys that became "The Beach Boys" and in the 60s Sunset Boulevard was a favorite place to go cruise. Never was at the Whisky but close by was Pandora's Box (nightclub). This was where the teens hung out. They didn't serve alcohol so the teens brought their own. It was well known for underage drinking and drugs were starting into the whole thing.

The Beach Boys were a house band at Pandora's for 3 Sunday nights in Oct 1962. Brian met Marilyn, his first wife, there. She was in the audience & he went to talk to her then spilled hot chocolate on her.

The area became so rowdy that in 66 the other businesses got a 10pm curfew pushed through, and then then riots started. That was the last time we went there. Didn't want any part of that crap.

Oh so you have kidney stones also. I have had them since I was 18. Been through lithotripsy twice. I usually pass 3 o4 4 per year.

The metal "glasses" we had - might still have some about.
The plastic carpet runner - never.
The skates? I'm not old enough.

No. Once gone I don't miss them at all.

Only the cooler kids in da hood had those great metal glasses, not I.

We had such a plastic runner at the front door, for about an hour, but since my mother kept tripping over it , out it went.

The skates I had for precisely one afternoon's roll, then they broke under my aggressive use. Plus, I think I used the remnants of one of the pair to bash a free-roaming dog in the head right after he chased me and my closest friend up a telephone pole. Almost immediately , I descended the pole, while the dog was still there snapping at us, my being insulted by that bs , and punched the Bulldog directly in the snout. When that wasn't enough, he got the skate greeting. He was inspired to leave and never returned, as far as I ever knew.

Cooler was not us; for us those were probably handed down or 2nd hand....
