Nikolas Cruz cellphone videos released: 'I'm going to be the next school shooter'
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/05/30/ni ... ooter.html
Prosecutors on Wednesday released three chilling videos of Parkland school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz detailing his plans to become famous after plotting to kill people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
"Hello, my name is Nik, and I'm going to be the next school shooter of 2018," Cruz, 19, calmly stated in one of the videos, which appeared to have been filmed on Feb. 14, the day of the mass shooting. The gunman said there was "going to be a big event" at Stoneman Douglas.
Cruz — who shot and killed 17 people and left 17 others injured on Valentine's Day at the Florida high school with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, according to investigators — said his "goal is at least 20 people with an AR-15."
The suspect, who laid out his "plan" for the massacre in one of his videos, was heard saying that when people see him "on the news, you'll all know who I am," before laughing. "You’re all going to die. Pew pew pew pew pew. Ah yeah, can’t wait."
Cruz also foretold his "plan" of taking an Uber ride to the school around 2:40 p.m. and getting his rifle to "shoot people down."
One of the videos, seemingly pointed at the ground, included Cruz talking about his loneliness, anger and hatred, and announced that the "day of my massacre shall begin."
"I live a lone life. I live in seclusion and solitude. I hate everyone and everything. But (with) the power of my AR you will all know who I am. I had enough of being told what to do and when to do," he said.

Honestly, Tom, Ozzie and Harriet lived up the street from me when I was a boy, and "The Beave" was one of my group of friends. Can you pick him out here?

I heard today on the News that a new on-line game has been invented that has the operator/player being either the shooter attacking inside a school, or a hero defending the school against the intruder. It seemed like a training film for killers, to me. Anybody else see this? As soon as news spread about this, a hue and cry went up among people against the manufacturer/inventor.

Wait. You really are stating that Hollywood got it right?

Oh. Thank you. That's what I saw today exactly. I guess I should have kept reading on that thread.

I'm going to have to alert the media!
Lean on me is one big a$$ Hollywood fantasy film. I know what Mitch is getting at but.......The movie depicts a once successful Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey, that has deteriorated due to drugs and crime.
(Morgan Freeman) the new principle makes immediate radical changes that include expelling 300 students identified as drug dealers or abusers and troublemakers,
If you had that many student drug dealers at that school they would be killing each other. And you are not going to pass a test simply because your spirits are high.
The appeal of the film is because Morgan Freeman is the star. Ironically Morgan Freeman is now under fire as 8 women have accused him of sexual misconduct.

'Active Shooter' video game is pulled from Steam gaming platform after backlash from shooting survivors
https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/30/us/valve ... index.html
(CNN)A much-criticized video game that would let players shoot up a school has been pulled from a digital storefront just days before its release.
The PC game, "Active Shooter," was set to be released June 6 on Steam, an online gaming store and platform owned by Valve Corp., a video game developer.
News of the game's release had sparked widespread outrage, including among students and parents at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people died in a shooting in February.
And in other news.

I taught science and English there when Mr. Clark was principal.
Currently, my best friend is principal there. I'll be having lunch with him this Saturday.

Obvious question, Murph.
How accurate is the movie?

Obvious question, Murph.
How accurate is the movie?
The characters (pun intended): The school superintendent (Dr. Napier [now deceased] ), the Mayor (Frank Graves [now deceased] ), and Mr. Clark seemed fairly familiar. However, Mr. Clark, who was well aware of what he was up against, both inside and outside the building, was a whole lot more effusive and strident than depicted by Morgan Freeman. He placed a premium on loyalty, by the teaching staff, to him, which meant, therefore, to the students' growth, which was expressed, on a daily basis, by doing a good job, which meant effective classroom management, academic progress, and decorous classrooms, with students interested in what teachers were presenting.
The situation: (a.) State mandated testing, in Language Arts and Mathematics, often got in the way of creativity and enthusiasm by the teaching staff. Teaching for scores is not fun.
(b.) The stories and controversy about the principal chaining the doors that led to the outside were true. We all understood that doing so inhibited egress from the building in an emergency, no matter how "quick" and well-intentioned the "Keepers of the Keys" were. Yet, we also understood why doors were chained shut. That is, outsiders would summon students who they personally knew or had simply observed through the windows to open doors to allow the miscreants (that is a gentle word for them) access to the building to do their mischief (another gentle word for their crimes).
Outside vs Inside: The effect the people not in attendance each day in classrooms, who lurked outside, was deleterious to education actually occurring. Teachers did their best, dealing with the myriad difficulties presented by some students who belonged in their seats. However, to have to do battle with outsiders was, often, equally draining.
Here's an example: An English teacher who had her ( a strikingly pretty Italian 30-something woman, well-known in the community) classroom located in the basement level, was distracted, one day, from teaching by a couple of male, local Hangers-around who were speaking loudly outside the classroom windows, the bottoms of which were located approximately halfway down the outside wall of the room, which positioned them at shoulder height to those standing in the classroom.
When the teacher went to the window to object, asking the vagrants to leave, they cursed at her, with one guy in particular inviting her to "Sukmydik." She turned from them to return to the chalkboard to resume her writing, with her back toward the windows, at the far end of that wall. In the meantime, the guy outside pulled out his dick and pissed thru the open window onto the chalkboard. The piss ran down the board into the chalk ledge, collecting around an eraser. MrPisser then left the scene. No student in the classroom warned the teacher, when she reached for the eraser. She inadvertently spread a swash of piss across the chalkboard and got a hand full of piss. Nobody laughed. But she felt very badly, as she explained what happened to her colleagues later.
Like much of the gritty reality present, daily, that scene wasn't depicted in the film.

Schools have more than enough problems, without dealing with the occasional mass murderer. I'm reminded of Westerns where the sheriff who's been hired to clean up the town requires that everyone check their guns when coming in to town. We all have to make some sacrifices to enjoy civilized life together. Of course, I don't want to give up my thermonuclear bombs, nerve gas, death stars, etc., but I'll do it, to enjoy the advantages of civilized society.
Why can't we get it through our thick heads that guns and civil society don't mix?

Because the badguys are always there, lurking, waiting, and sizing-up the weak(er than they) so they can pounce. Predator and prey. The need for defense is story of the whole world, animal and human.
