When I feel sorry for the young and uneducated workers in Oklahoma (and the midwest in general I guess) making minimum wage or less and then see what it cost to live on either coast, midwest residents have it a lot better. I'm blown away every time I hear about living expenses from Rufus.

This might explain why Immigration has been routing legal refugees and immigrants to the midwest, instead of the coasts and have been doing this for decades.

It's more expensive in other areas of the country than where I live; NYC, Boston, San Fran, some other parts of CA, Seattle.....

I really do not know how young folks are going to survive financially with COL, saddled with loans, credit card debt that's crazy by my standards, and next to nothing in the bank. They are living on the edge of collapse and will inherit the messes that we make now.

And what happens when they need serious medical care?

They fall off the edge......

Well, do you have children?

The flip side of this is parents and in-laws that have to be cared for and/or may be on the verge of financial exhaustion.

Getting stuck in the middle appears to be an increasing situation.

Who will take care of you?

The name for the stuck in he middle cohort is "tweeners."
We were such. Now that we're just over the threshold of 80, our children act as if we need care, much to our annoyance.

Could be worse. Could care to put you in a home and never be seen again.

And grandparents raising their children's, children. Seems to be an epidemic of that going around these days. I know several who were ready to retire, but can't afford it now, due to grandkids. Our world is just topsy turvy these days.

The scenario that I scratch my head over are women having babies at 45........who takes care of who in 20 years?

Nah. I have more money (thus O scale) and a generally bad attitude.

My Living Will.

Last night, my kids and I were sitting in the living room and I said to them, “I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.” They got up, unplugged the computer and threw out my wine!!

The little bastards.

"The scenario that I scratch my head over are women having babies at 45........who takes care of who in 20 years?" Rufus. That's almost me. I'm 49. My daughter is 4. My wife is 38. When i'm 61. My daughter will want to drive. Will i be able to help? Teach/pay insurance. Will i be able to help with college? I'm thinking of teaching her to be a plumber. To start her own business. With all these snowflake kids out there. They may hire a female only plumbing company. Plumbers earn a good living around here. A royal flush will always beat a full house.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes
