Is it a usual procedure to use TCA standards when describing a 2 rail brass loco as in the ads in the above post?

Wow! Isn't this a real shame, that some of Jerry Whites locomotives would wind up mis-identified and listed on eBay by Trainz. That is the ultimate insult in my book. Why didn't the owner, who most likely passed away, tell his significant others these locos were one of the kind?

Not sure of the others, but the 9000 looks very much like a Sunset model, that Jerry would have repowered, although I do believe he scratch built one too.

Not to audience that buys such, and generally not even applicable, but Trainz just does that pandering to the folks that feel warm & fuzzy when they see the use of such standards.

The people at Trainz are only slightly more bright than the new bulb in my refrigerator. They are only interested in moving stuff as fast as possible.

Most don't and don't want to either and I suspect there's some reciprocity in that condition as well. And, perhaps there's a lesson to be learned here, too. How many here actually have inventoried their trains and shared that information with their spouse or family???

there is more to this story, but I may not be fully correct in names... Joe was divorced a few years earlier and living in a large mansion. some acquaintances came over for a weekend and after a while he was asked if he would ever consider selling and he threw out a price and after a day or so he sold the lot. now I'm not sure of parties involved but I was told they were going to set the layout up in a museum. they came down a few days or weeks later with a crew of men and carefully packed everything and labeled every wire and then got around to figuring out where the cut marks were to be and then the layout and ALL... absolutely all the trains and related stuff was gone. and then a year or two and so was my friend Joe Fiore. There is more stuff on ebay besides the JW's I'm hoping to get some for my layout.

I think the primary reason is these folks deal mostly with 3 rail stuff. That said, I am noticing more and more 2 rail in their auctions. At least they are giving some indications as to condition, as opposed to: "Look at the pictures for condition." That is fine IF the images are decent quality. I don't see anything wrong with using the TCA standards.

I am well aware of the late Jerry White, and even have a booklet of the engines he built, but I wouldn't have been able to pick any of those you list as being his.

Are there some visible tells or do you know them from being familiar with the stuff on his layout?

Hi Rich,
Jerry's drives are easily id by his unique gearbox all wheel pickup and most of all his 3 prong tender plug. Rod Miller might be able to tell us more if he is on here.
This booklet you speak of, tell me more.

Might have slipped up, booklet might have been on Bill Lenoir's stuff. Bill Davis was selling them on Ebay. I know Rod was associated with Jerry.

Whatever the case, I like the looks of that NYC Hudson a lot.
