Apparently so.

And even though, in this case, I simply repeated verbatim what was reported on a TV News show, I am always certain the Wayne will add his well-researched perspective.

I cited my reference, the BBC. I am sure the BBC thoroughly researched the data before publishing it. Just ask Elon Musk if the BBC ever fakes a report.

Rufus, does your post-apocalyptic costume have something to do with your retirement?

Does anybody remember their "Dick and Jane" readers?

They were written by William S Gray and Illustrated by Zema Sharp.

Gray (1885–1960) was born in the town of Coatsburg, Illinois on June 5, 1885. He graduated from high school in 1904 and began teaching in a one-room school house in Adams County, Illinois. After four years of teaching and being a principal he went to Illinois State Normal University for a two-year teacher training course. His studies were influenced by the North American Herbartian movement that emphasized starting with what the child knows and proceeding with an inductive instructional approach.

Zerna Addis Sharp (August 12, 1889 – June 17, 1981) was a US author, writer and teacher. She became known for creating the Dick and Jane beginning readers, and many other readers for children. Sharp noted the reduced reading ability of children during her travels and urged a new reading format for primers. She suggested that primers introduce a word at a time to new readers, and the Dick and Jane primers adhered to this format. The names "Dick" and "Jane" were chosen because they were easy to sound.

Edit 1: Added reference for Gray as author of Dick and Jane.

Anybody grow up in the United Kingdom with Peter and Jane readers?

The books were designed as materials for teaching a small child to learn to read, using a system of
key phrases and words devised by teacher William Murray. Murray was an educational adviser at
a borstal and later headmaster of a "school for the educationally subnormal" in Cheltenham. From
research undertaken in the 1950s by Murray with Professor Joe McNally, an educational
psychologist at the University of Manchester, Murray realised that only 12 words account for a
quarter of the vocabulary used in normal speaking, reading and writing in the English language,
100 words for half, and 300 words for three-quarters. Murry wrote under the pen-name, Ladybird.
