I remember when we were able to deduct the interest paid on loans and credit cards. That was a real loss when they did away with that practice. I wonder whatsumbich's idea it was to do that.

I'm more interested in finding out if folks end up paying lower taxes or what........

No. One, I'd prefer a hat made in the US. Two, no tax cut in 35 years has provided me with any financial benefit and the ones in 80's put my family through a series of recessions that were exceedingly painful. In any case with this tax cut, personal taxes will go back up while corporate capital gains will not, but my LLC will benefit. I don't know what that will mean for years. Third, a silly slogan that has yet to have any real substance of how to MAGA behind it remains a silly slogan fronting the biggest granfalloon of all time. Fourth, I have a rather nice Pendleton hat that my wife gave me; sadly, even Pendleton outsources out their production - probably to the same factory when Trump makes ties.

I have a brand new book from the library, a plate of brownies, and a hot cuppa so my evening will be enjoyable.

When Pendleton went to China, that torqued me big time. I don't mind payin' $75 for a well made and well fitting American made outdoorsmans' wool shirt, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna give it to the Chinese.

You all know that excerpts of the speech have already been leaked? Lou Dobbs already hit the highlights, so why torture yourself watching? Unless, of course, you're just watchin' to see the circus when the 'Crats bring in all the illegal aliens to throw lawlessness in the face of Americans as the President addresses the nation. Capitol police will ignore it and not notify ICE to round them up.

If you agree with the Progressives, it's freedom of speech. If you disagree, it's hate speech. There are no alternatives.

Can't even remember who was prez at the time. i guess i don't really remember watching it.Only thing i remember was some childish guy named Jindal giving a rebuttal. At that moment i realized politicians don't give a F&^k about you or me.

Can anybody tell me about this "...beautiful, clean, coal..." that Mr. Trump spoke about, in his first SOTU address?

I'm as clueless about this substance as WARNER BROS/Hollywood was about the 'dirty black' kind during the creation of the movie "POLAR ESPRESS".

Wayne?, Rufus?, Murph?, Hondo?, Rex?, Anybody???

I doubt that he has ever even physically seen a piece of coal or been anywhere near a working mine. The usual let's make stuff up and say it again and again until some people actually begin to believe it......

First people blast him for not using a TelePrompTer. They say “ he won’t take advice from anybody. He won’t let them tell him what to say” now half the country is mad the guy read a speech. Ain’t politics grand?.
Clean coal is a play on words. Yes it is less “DIRTY” then coal burnt in the 40’s and 50’s. Even 1 percent cleaner is less. Why use less energy. Folks always want cleaner so they can use more. Think of a Monday night football game . A camera pans to the city skyline. Mr announcer say” look how beautiful it looks with all the lights on” what if he said “look it’s dark! That’ a city that knows how to save resources “

Hey Mitch, I believe the boys up the road, Woolrich (Lock Haven PA), have off-shored most of their product-line as well. Bought a lot of stuff from them over the years...a bit discouraging, but not unexpected.

AND cookies for his using only 41 Singular First Person Pronouns (I; me; my; mine) during the entire speech, beginning to end. (Yup, I kept a count. ). He was fond of using Plural First Person Pronouns (we; our; us) which were too many to have been counted. Any intelligent person would have been aware of the propensity.

The result, from my perspective , was a whole different tone than, "Oh, look at me. I am amazing and no other President has been as great and wonderful." IMO . The message seemed, to me, to be that WE are doing well and better every day. Nice.

(Ok, you can let me have it. I can take it.)

The use of Plural First Person Pronouns just proves that he can read a speech written by someone else. I am of course delighted that a graduate of Wharton is capable of reading.

I agree with your assumption, Rufus . Anybody who has heard him speak previously knows this speech was written by someone else. Yet, I suspect that he did approve and read it ahead of time, even practicing, because he seemed self-controlled and in-charge of himself AND the moment.

What would be curious to discover, though I imagine we never will, is WHO was able to have that much sway over him to keep him on-script . That would be a person worth the discovery and the watching .
