Lovely cars. Musing on what it would have been like, sitting in the tail of that observation car with a drink and a cigar, watching the countryside pass by.
You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

FROZEN EYELASHES
I thought I would post this frozen eyelashes photo in the Northern Weather thread but they are talking about Hydrolyzed Soy over there.
I wouldn't want to bring the topic back to weather, so I'll try it here.
What do you do when the temperature drops below freezing in the Hobo Jungle?
This young lady (Anastasia Gruzdeva) in diamond-rich Russian region of Yakutia, Siberia, decided to go outside and take a selfie.

Then she posted it on Facebook. :=> https://www.facebook.com/988.my/posts/1572391436131769
The photo was taken Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 when the temperature was -58 °F. Yesterday, Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, it was -88.6 °F in her camp.

Re: Hobo Jungle
I was feeling like some Ligeti this morning and I ran across this performance which brightened an otherwise dreary rainy day....
Barbara Hannigan performing and directing Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre with Gothenburg Symphony.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFFpzip-SZk
or this perhaps more conventional

Re: Hobo Jungle
I have less trouble accepting the above performances than some others recommended by Rufus.
Probably because it is more related to music that was once my background.
I still prefer classic classics such as stuff by Beethoven, Tschaikovsky, Stravinsky, etc,
By the way, I do like the above performances. They are fun.

There are also videos of her doing Mozart and Stravinsky, some with her directing, some not. I am impressed with her singing that material and also directing.
The playfulness of the performances (outstanding) really adds another dimension to the entire event.

I agree. I have attended some performances of music that I thought were hilarious
but nobody but me laughed because it was "classical" music and it was supposed to be serious.

"Dance Macabre" by Saint-saens has a wonderful way of amusing the imagination, doesn't it.

Yes, but I find Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre more entertaining.

Classic Vincent motorcycle auctioned for record-setting $929,000
http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2018/01/26/ ... 29000.html

What was once the fastest motorcycle in the world has set another record after being sold at auction for nearly a million bucks.
The 1951 Vincent 998cc Black Lightning had an official top speed of 122 mph, which made it faster than any other motorcycle or car on the road in the day, but this particular one was purchased by Australian racing legend Tony McAlpine for £500 and subsequently sold to fellow racer Jack Ehret, who rode it even faster than that.
Ehret made a few tweaks and hit 141.509 mph on the Vincent to set an Australian speed record. He also competed on it extensively, and claims to have won four out of five of the races he entered on it over 40 years, including sidecar events.
