"Some references for cholesterol reducing foods:" Cardboard is still the best. find your favorite fatty food. Remove from its packaging. Throw out that fatty food and eat just the box. Cardboard will swell in your stomach leaving less room for junk food. You may find that there is less harmful ingredients in that cardboard box. No sulfates. no sodium Erythorbate. Probably even less harmful dye in the box then the food inside. Yup eat the cardboard box. Photo of the food on the outside looks better then what is on the inside.

Thanks, but I'll leave that diet to you......

According to Google: "The health benefits of beer include anticancer properties, a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, increased bone density, the prevention of dementia and coronary disease, aid to the digestive system, anti-aging properties, as well as treating diabetes, gallstones, kidney stones, osteoporosis, and hypertension."

Sounds like a miracle drug to me...running to the liquor store...

Thank you, again, Roy, for your input. I did what you suggested, on the previous page, and went through the usual mire of useless info and doctors' biographies and magic elixirs, and came up with Omega-rich fish, legumes, lentils, and then the gobble-die-gook entered the picture, as usual, and I surrendered.

Ssooooo, my thanks, once again, for this additionally helpful reply with its several links, I appreciate your kindness and input.

P.S. And as you can see, my intention to stimulate conversation on the subject worked out too. All these varied voices, with their myriad experiences in life, always are helpful and interesting, to be sure.

But how about after one has had a cholecystectomy? Isn't beer bad for you forever then?

All good - lots of fish qualify, but fish can get pricey and getting good fish is key. We've found that the individually frozen portion fish from Costco is surprisingly good - salmon (2 kinds), cod, and a few others are to our liking.....

Add in asparagus it that appeals - some like it and some not so much.

Lentils are good, but they need help on the flavor side after a while.....a dash of roasted pineapple habanero sauce lightens them up

About the only fish I have a taste for is just dumping a 1/2can of Albacore Tuna (in olive oil) on a slice of multi-grain toast, add a slice of tomato, and include some slices of bell peppers alongside for munching, and that is my limit of fish tolerance. Otherwise, I don't dislike fish, I just find it uninspiring and boring in the extreme. :(

As I read it there is not a hard and fast post cholecystectomy diet and a long list of things to be cautious of and to very carefully and gradually learn what food you might or not tolerate - not everyone is the same and what is impossible for others may not be for you in very discrete amounts and some things you probably can't tolerate.

You have to test and record what you can and not tolerate and keep track of it as well.

A small taste of beer might be tolerated fine - a full bottle might not be......

You should probably talk to a real dietician//nutritionist or 3 to get a meaningful set of opinions and recommendations. Maybe do a little research on your own as well. It never ceases to surprise me how 1-dimensional doc's can be not thinking of diet & nutrition in parallel to surgery and thereafter.

I don't dislike fish, I just find it uninspiring and boring in the extreme.

I find tuna to be some of the most boring eating fish in the sea; fresh trout is hard to beat, but a pan full of fresh bluegills will give anything a run for the money!

I saw a PBS special on canned tuna. Never again will i eat it. Also caught one on farmed raised fish. They may not be the best thing for you to eat and don't buy into that term wild caught. That's a term for how the take it out of the water. Not how or where it was raised.

Sam's Club has these 4 packs of Salmon/Crab that are very good. The crab meat is rolled into long strips of salmon; each roll is about 4" in diameter. Season them up and pop them in the oven for a short while, and they're to die for. (Well, maybe if you're a seafood nut like me).

Thank you, Rufus, for that most excellent and detailed advice and expertise chronicled above. Truly. Thank you.

I have been proceeding carefully and have discovered many foods that are no-no's, like potato chips, which inflict a powerful discomfort. And fruit, like the gorgeous dark red cherries and nectarines we have been munching for weeks, now, to be comfortable but very consistently insistent on a visit to the bathroom in just short of an hour after consumption.

I allow myself beef approx. once per month, max; the rest of the time, it's turkey or chicken, as my main protein intake. Had a single meatball for supper today and am paying for it right on schedule; the last beef I had before that was beef Bolognese, which I love but pay for soon afterwards, too. :?

I really shouldn't impose further on your kind indulgence of me; perhaps. you should send me a bill. :D
