Not sure if I ever posted this here or not. Large scale BB that Mr. Lee made (actually I understand he made 10 for customers) and displayed at the 2010 NMRA National. The photo was taken back in the good days between Mr. Lee and Kohs. Remarkable model and I have other photos if anyone interested.

Very impressive looks to be 7 1/2" scale [typical live steam gauge] curious as to what buyers paid for that model .

I understand from a reliable source they were $100K a copy. I guess these are pieces for museums and very rich people.

Nothing states your railroad/model interest more than a giant Big Boy that cost $100K. Takes up less room than a $100K classic car, too.
At one time Allied Hobbies had a 1/32 (?) brass GG-1 for sale and I semi-seriously considered buying it and displaying it in our LR. My bride helped me recover my sanity...

I just enjoy looking at them. Even if I could afford one, I wouldn't go there. But, if you were filthy rich and like to show off our wealth and liked trains, I guess this would be for you. Can you imagine shipping that monster and having to pack and unpack. No idea how Mr. Lee got it to the USA.

Reminds me of the goofy 1965 movie "John Goldfarb, Please come Home!" In it, John Goldfarb (Richard Crenna) crashes his spy plane in the Middle East and is taken prisoner by the local government run by King Fawz (Peter Ustinov). Shirley MacLaine was in it, but the highlight was the King's playroom, where amidst the harem beauties, he ran gold, jewel-encrusted standard gauge trains on the floor track with tanker cars full of oil. Of course, King Fawz tooled around in a white "Rolls" golf cart. He may have ordered a pair of these.

I sold a Pacific last fall for $15 grand. It was not a tenth the value of that brass Big Boy, although the tender was brass. Somebody paid $32K for a Lionel Hudson a couple decades ago. It is all relative. Some day my 1" scale Harriman switcher will come in to the living room. I think the requirement is a varnished old oak trestle and a plastic cover.

I'm curious if the Union Pacific Railroad has one of these guys stashed away in their Omaha headquarters somewhere? I would think some enterprising "foamer" would have discovered it by now..................
