Sort of like that? Yup, but a bit less calm and every bit as iconic.

Well, let's get that set up!

How about a nice round table at the Algonquin?

The logistics would be mind boggling - well out of my league.

I can. Don't do it. When a deer dies thousands of fleas, ticks and other things jump or drop off the carcass. You do not want to infest your ML with these creatures.

You should field dress the deer immediately anyway, so the vermin get removed with the skin, the internal organs get removed before they rot (bacterial rot starts almost immediately upon death, bloating the animal and ruining the meat) and blood gets drained.

Draining the blood helps keep the meat from tasting "gamey."

Also, draining the blood is particularly important if you are Jewish or Christian.

Genesis 9:4 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
4 Only, you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

Acts 15:29New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

Well, that's probably all I'll ever need to know on that dubious subject, though I am grateful for its thoroughness and graphic clarity. Wow. Fleeing fleas. Rotting innards. You are right and convincing about my not clubbing a deer to death in my yard, for example and attempting to dress it in my Mercedes Benz . Clever man. And practical too!

And once again, we see that when the Wayne gets involved with and focused on a subject, a thorough examination is the result . Cool. Indeed.

Thanks for those links, Hondo. I enjoyed them. The deer seem so casual about the whole thing. And a moose no less in one encounter! The first video was a bit desperately nutty, esp. when it involved children = not so funny.

I haven't seen the Barbie Dream Funeral for sale yet.
Might be missing some big money without selling it.

Backing away was his first mistake. But once on the ground, couldn't he have wrenched a leg, twisting and twisting until it ripped pff? Or could he have, while still upright, grabbed the antlers and twisted them until the neck was broken?

I think of such attitude when I see films of folks running from geese or turkeys - how about grabbing the neck and spinning the bird overhead and swinging it at the ground until dead Eh? Huh? I'm serious. But run away from such a bird? Never. I expect them to move out of the way or be sorry. And saved for Christmas dinner to share with Mr. Scrooge and Tiny Tim. Oh, and I'd also like them to clean up after themselves, esp. those geese.

I love Nature. :D
P.S. When I go out into the yard at night, like to take the garbage to the curb, I always have a crowbar with me, for the off-chance of meeting such a deer as in that film, Robert, or a gamboling Black Bear, or marauding Homie or Hoodie. A surprise swipe across the face is expected to do wonders. :|

I don't know about you Murph, but having seen up close and personal what 40 lbs of pissed off male turkey can do to someone in a barnyard, I have developed a fairly healthy respect for my fellow species on this planet. And yeah, I suspect the guy probably did something pretty moronic to earn himself a buck asskicking.

Good - real good - to learn that perspective from you, Tom, about those big birds. I have wondered if my mindset toward them were practical and realistic. One can have an attitude full of hubris before ever standing next to or in front of them, but I had wondered they might be at least a bit of a challenge to handle. Yet, what else is one to do before ever being in such a situation besides being ready with some boldness.

We shall see. I have miles ahead and adventures to fulfill, yet, and this Summer is beckoning.

Regarding bear, I see the woods in the background of Hondo's photo, and that he has left the keys in the ignition. When I am on a walking excursion in a forested area Upstate NY, I have been leaving the driver's door opened, but the keys with me. My reasoning has been that with the door opened I could have a chance of leaping in if pursued by wildlife. Yet, seeing your photo, I was reminded of my hesitancy concerning their getting in before I ever do while I am in the woods.

Hondo, Thank you very much for the reality of that photo of the bear saying, "Hi. I'm sure there is something here I will want, like upholstery, or your leg. Got snacks? I smell your lunch on you."
