What's happening to large cities
Re: What's happening to large cities
The original framers fore saw this trend in Humanities lack of. I believe they provided for a way constitutionally remove the overly dominant pigs to be replaced from the trough. This all requires the effort of those governed. The true power of democracy lies in the people and some are just starting to flex their muscle. I pray it stays civil.

Re: What's happening to large cities
In Calif the idiot voters recently passed two initiatives, one lets serious criminals out early and another reduces serious crimes to misdemeanors. Our jails are overcrowded and the courts said they have to reduce the prison population. They are spending billions for a train to nowhere that no one will use but won't build jails. And this one party very liberal state actually believes career criminals can be rehabilitated. 4 cops have been shot to death recently since these laws. The last one the guy was out of prison 1 week and he was let out early.

Getting back to the CRISIS in Chicago. CBS in the last 2 years has done a lot of investigative reporting on the situation.
Most all of it relates to DRUGS & GANGS. You have several generations of gang members in families over the past 40 years. Do you think you can get these thugs and drug dealers to take some mediocre job when they can make thousands of dollars selling drugs and buy all the BLING they want.

Take your pick from all of these.

It's too late for them now. It was all ignored for decades - a festering situation. But causes at the the beginning were ignored. Lock them all up and don;t fix the causes and the problem continues - just treating the symptoms, not the disease. Sort of like treating cancer after it's too late to cure it - you still lose.
Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have created or made.

Brunswick is not a large city @ 15,000. I cry for our country.
People need to wake up and smell the coffee. Send them to trial. Convict them of murder. Apply the death penalty. Stand them up against a wall and blow them away. Televise the event and make it clear if you do this, the result is that.
Barbaric you say? What could be any more heinous than what they did. They forfeited any rights they might have had when they pulled the trigger. They were young! Oh Boo Hoo! The child they killed was even younger.

Actually, that's wasteful, and as we already know, there's always more to fill the empty spots.
There were some books by Larry Niven - the Jigsaw Man was one specifically with this....incarcerate criminal in the "Organ Farm" while cross typing them as organ donors. While they serve out their time sentence, if someone needs their kidney, well, out it comes and off to a good new hone....and maybe you survive your sentence and then again, maybe someone needs your heart. Too bad. Transplant tech advances to the point where just about anything can be replaced with "spare parts". Demand for parts then drives tougher and tougher laws - jaywalking puts you in the Organ Farm.....

Waste not, want not!

About 10 years ago hazleton's mayor was all over the news.

Very interesting article and one that has been repeated and will be repeated many, many times in this country until someone puts a leash on the ACLU. What happened to "the good of the many is more important than the good of the few". The ACLU is 180 degrees out of synch with this belief and that's why we have many of the problems we do. The ACLU has way too much power these days.
Attorneys are another reason we have prisons full of murderers, rapists, and others who committed heinous crimes. Not dope, white collar (except guys like Bernie Madoff who destroyed thousands of people) and non-violent robbery criminals, but really worthless pieces of trash who have no respect for anyone. I think defense attorneys who defend someone who has obviously committed a serious premeditated crime that took a life (which is obvious in many crimes these days) should suffer the same fate as the scumbags they're defending. If he loses, he goes to prison with his client or loses his life or ??? And coping a plea of insanity is just too bad. Sure you claim insanity after you're caught and even if you are crazy and killed someone, it's time you met your maker. Convicted murderers who spend decades on death row is BS. And now they get away with claiming the means of putting them to death is inhuman. What about their victims. Our criminal systems needs to be changed.
Those young boys should have been put down like mad dogs. They have a serious defect and need to be purged. They will never contribute positively to society and most likely come out of whatever prison they go to as much more dangerous individuals than when they went in.
We've had "tough love" for decades trying and turn some children around, it's time we had tough punishment. The only thing I agree with in middle east beliefs (if it's true) is their punishment that fits the crime. You steal you lose a hand, you kill and you're killed, you rape and I guess they wack off your peepee. Oops sorry, I think rape is okay in their eyes since women have to value or rights. Sick bastards.

Chicago police arrest 81 in overnight raids, mostly for drug and weapons offenses
http://abcnews.go.com/US/chicago-police ... d=45731167
The raids, focused on the city's South and West Side neighborhoods, were "focused on the underlying source of crime in these areas: the sale of narcotics," Johnson said at a press conference Friday afternoon.
Of the 81 people arrested, Johnson said 61 are previously convicted felons, 49 are documented gang members, 19 have previously been arrested on gun charges, 14 are currently on parole, and 65 have been previously identified by police to be at a higher risk to be a victim or offender of gun violence.
"There are repeat gun offenders that one, don't care they're on parole, two, don't care about the fact they're already previously convicted felons," Johnson said.

Interesting, Chicago isn't even on the list while New Orleans, St. Louis, and Charm City are........

it's per capita. Size of the denominator important..

Yes. Per 100k.....and that is in some ways more disturbing. Thought Charm City had dropped far lower.
