From the Firefly Shops
Re: From the Firefly Shops
These type cabooses (cabeese) general were built with walkways on top of the cupola to allow movement from one end of the car to the other, but I believe this was outlawed in the early part of the 20th century. At least the UP ran them this way. Nice job on this kit. Is this a QC kit or ?

Yes - very nice. What technique do you use to avoid splitting between pieces of scribed siding where they butt up against each other? I have resorted to a plywood doubler with some success, but much prefer to find older scribed plywood in one long piece.

Pretty sure it's one of those or an Ambroid ATSF caboose. I have a storage tub of unfinished or partial built stuff that I find entertainment in whenever I reach in and grab something.
Confess that the funky All-Nation hopper on my bench now is proving to be a real PITA,
Can you make me one
Could, but I very rarely build for others - it's called work and if I charged my current hourly rate, well, I wouldn't hire me either....

Amazing? Adequate? Hmm......Martin, the word that comes to my mind is crisp, in that your models are always crisply built -- lines that are supposed to be straight are straight. Angles that are supposed to be ninety degrees are indeed orthogonal. Pieces come together with nice clean joints -- no gaps or glue-ooz. Edges are cut and finished very cleanly, etc. I guess I would also have to add thorough, in that you take the time to finish the car carefully and add the details that really set the car off. To me it shows a dedication to a certain personal quality standard as well as the cumulative results of many years of experience doing the style of model building that you like and at which you are now very competent -- perhaps exceptionally competent, but I am not a builder of wood models, so I can't say. We all admire your work, though, that is for sure.

Ok, maybe I'm adequate at meeting my own standards?
I build for my entertainment and fun (and also for OST), and more often than not now when finished the car/structure ends up on my table at Strasburg, Indy or Chicago. I might keep 1 in 5 cars and now almost zero structures that I indulge in building.
