P&RPete; I'm happy to report that after a little (And I do mean little) ground school I am doing MUCH better,
I don't think that you'll have to go to the basement now,,,,,,,But I would be very weary of any close aircraft sounds around your house!
Actually Yes! It's a blast! I havent ventured any farther than the general area though,,,I've already got lost once and had to call the tower for help!
Untill I can get my hands on some nav maps I'm not gonna try to go far!

Penn, we sit in some fly-over zone for some airforce base, I think I've heard it's up in NY state. Maybe because, sitting in the Alleghenies, we're good terrain-practice for them, but on a semi-regular basis, a pair of jets (I think they're A-10 'warthogs') will come wheeling through our valley. Thing is, they come through real low, and I'm talking 200 feet, because they have to gain altitude when they go over the minor ridge behind our house. They look like they're having fun, because I've watched them wheel and turn, and even do barrel-rolls. At that height, even though they're going pretty slow, those engines still make quite a racket, and when we hear them coming, we all go running outside to gawk, because it's quite a sight, and visceral to boot.
Anyway, they came through yesterday, but I had to think to myself...do we run outside, or might that be a 767 with Penn at the controls??
Now that you've had some practice, I gotta ask... try any barrel-rolls yet with that 767?

I also used to ride the P & L E R R. I used to ride it from Beaver to Gateway View Plazza in Pittsbutgh. I used to work for Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp at the Gateway View Plazza Data center. My wife used to take me from Rochester to Beaver where I cought the train. In fact up until a year or so ago I had my last ticket that still had 1 more ride on it that wasn't punched. It was from 1971. The engine used to be a GP-7 or a GP-9. Number 1501 and had 3 passenger cars on it. The train started in College which was so named because of Geneva College being upo the hill from College. It went to the P & L E R R station at the end of the Smithfield Street bridge. Its is now know as Station Square. The engine still survives today and is owned by a Ohio tourist railroad.

What Pittsburgh could use is a good steam excursion train. Go along the Mon up the Ohio. It would be just too cool. I heard somewhere in the area is an old steamer just sittin around. Maybe go the way of Altoona for the day and back. Certainly would grab my $$ a couple times a year.
