Jon, I've always been a realism nut. All things being equal, I would run Proto48 or whatever it's called. But who has a carpet layout with that?
The Berkshire cab window has been removed and looks hugely improved. The basic weathering is in, which leaves the finessed areas to do. The new ash pan also looks great in my opinion.

I share the admiration of the early New England Berks. For fun, here's my now 20-year-old build of a B&A A1a Berk:
My ashpan isn't as spiffy as Lee's, but still holds up OK I think...
It was a Model of the Month in MR, and then ran many many miles on my last two US outline layouts. It is the only American steam loco I kept when I jumped ship- Grin!

The levers that Lee added to the Berk's trailing truck. Have you seen those before? Lee says they were used to activate the ash dump doors.

They're to clear the pan. The grates in the firebox are shaken clear when needed into the pan with an iron that fits in a socket in the cab. The side levers dump the accumulated ash from the pan itself, usually during a turnaround service after the loco has delivered its train.

Sarge, please don't go to any extra trouble. I thought you might have some already. What I've been trying to find, and can't, are some really good photos of the prototype B&M Berkshire. I even went through about 500 pictures on the B&M historical preservation site. Found some gorgeous photos, but very few Berks similar to mine. Not to say there aren't any, put they pixilate so quickly once made a decent viewing size. Did find this beauty—2-10-2:
