Thanks, but only the lower is a RC kit I built up, the other is a RY models PRR F22 flatcar purchased as is. Believe this functions as an idler flat for the gun flat he produced. The RC isn't finished yet and will need some heavy weathering to match the condition of the deck. Got a little carried away with the hole and all and few 1st class carriers would allow this condition.

Sarge, thinking of some heavily weathered construction equipment to match the condition of he flat.

I might suggest some shiny new construction equipment might be not only more typical but look very cool, contrasting the flat rather than matching it. By "shiny new" I mean the pieces should still be toned down to look prorotypical, not toy-like shiny new.

Some new equipment going to market would be very typical, and the work you've done on the flat would stand out rather than blend.

Makes sense Sarge. The period would reflect older car and newer equipment. I'm looking at some 1/50th scale 1940-50's style scrapers without cab enclosures that would fit well. When I think about it no one would be hauling older beat up equipment in that timeframe unless it was destined for scraping, and they would most likely be in pieces in a gon rather than on a flatcar.

Must be mining equipment; probably for export out of Jacksonville, FL. The photo location is Dalton, GA about a hundred or so miles NW of Atlanta. It would sure be an interesting train to model.

Fine looking looking loads all, the only flat cat loads I have are these TOFC trailers and flat by Quality Craft that Maroon snagged off E-Bay


I'd like to build a good size train of these, I have one of the Atlas versions and like it a lot too; the main issue with these QC versions I see is the blushed and bubbled decals, I intend to re-letter the trailers with sheet placards for the heralds etc instead of directly onto the scribed sides.

Before you peel those Burlington decals try flooding them with Micro-sol or Micro-set (I forget which one I used). I had a die cast car with a decal that had lifted over a concave spot in the bodywork and it snuggled right down after a couple of applications.

While looking for something else, I stumbled on this thread and the Burlington pigs reminded me of a plastic 1/43 96by40 trailer that I have that scales out close enough to a 102by45 trailer that was in common use until the current crop of 102by53 trailers hit the roads. I have one of those QC kits but something about it kept me from ever assembling it and now I have no idea what it was or even where the kit is.
