Re: Hobo Jungle
I thought about trying that in my mother-in-laws pool but I was afraid I might hit my lawn mower she borrowed!
One of the funniest moments, ever, on this forum!
A moment in Mississippi infamy that will live on forever.

I guess OGR would not have allowed that photo.
Must not be much sense of humor there.
I agree with The Dirt.

Jon, do you know that the mower in the pool incident made it into one of my short stories?

Excerpt from the story:
He needed to get a turkey. He needed to clean the house. He needed to buy oil for the furnace. He needed a new job. He needed to drop some weight—probably more than just some. He needed to quit drinking. He understood her leaving him and taking the opportunity to earn a decent wage. Who could blame her? No one wanted to be in a relationship with a drunk and a loser. If he failed at Thanksgiving, she would take her cat and be gone forever. As if hearing his thoughts, Boo let out a bit of a croak and brought out the paw again. What the cat lacked in voice he made up for with size and amiability.
He patted the oversized wooly head, rubbed the tufted ears. “You too, huh? What’re we gonna do, buddy? Once she gets a cats-allowed apartment, she’ll take you with her and be gone. Then what? She’ll have no reason to ever talk to me again.” He sneezed. Maybe he had a cold along with the flu? He figured it was almost drowning in that damn swimming pool that had done it. Christ, why had he thought it would be hilarious to fire up and drive the boss’s new lawn mower? He’d wanted to surprise all the guests, his coworkers of the past couple months, and make his girlfriend laugh. Wasn’t it his good spirits and sense of humor that had always made people accept him? But what did he know about how to act at a fancy office party like that? Those damn sweet drinks. Mai Tais, Slippery Monkeys, Lava Flows, and a Blue Smurf. He’d had to try them all, but what did he know about crap like that? He’d always been a beer guy. Besides, he’d only intended to drive up near the edge to scare everyone. “Boo, I even offered to pay to have the damn mower hauled out of the pool.” He stroked his palm along the thick fur. “Focker should’ve had the pool drained by then away. Of course then I probably woulda cracked my skull. Mighta been better for everyone, I guess.”
He lurched off the sofa and staggered toward the kitchen, legs dead, joints stiff as if rusted, his damp pajamas clinging to his heavy frame. The cat followed. Though the animal had a cat door, lately he’d been continually curled up on the sickbay sofa. “We’re pals, aren’t we, Boo? We know what it’s like to be down and out, to be all alone in the world,” he said as he spooned out some wet food which smelled nothing like the label professed—“Shrimp and salmon? my arss.” He also retrieved another beer from the fridge. “This is my last one, Boo. No one could stand this pain without a beer once in a while. Got to lubricate the joints, wash away the germs. After all, damn Pilgrims basically lived on beer, and they had it way rougher than me.”

Jon, When I ponder the amount of grass I have mowed in my lifetime (both at home and on the job), and my total distaste for that particular activity, I would consider the drowning/shooting of any mower/lawn tractor/scythe to be justifiable homicide. I would even volunteer to testify on your behalf as an inexpert witless.......er witness!

I just bought a Toshiba Chromebook 2, I've been researching them and figured I know enough about them to buy one. On Best Buy site they had one on black Friday sale that I was considering. There was 35 reviews, all favorable and some sounded like from knowledgeable people, many figure this is one of the best values. I wanted to take advantage of the sale, I saved $50. there is $25 Democrat tax and $3 Democrat environment charge.
My old Dell desktop is 8 1/2 years old, few keep a computer that long, after I blew the dust out of it last Monday it works perfectly. Lots of dust. It has served me well, for the time being I will keep it but I imagine the time will come when I do something with it.
I've never had a laptop, I don't even know how to work it. And now I have to get a WiFi router, another learning experience.

Tramp, nice writing! That guy almost sounds like me and I even had a cat named Boo. But Boo died, I'm still married, and I don't do foo-foo drinks!
Rich, You crack me up!!! My lawyer might be contacting you to be an inexpert witness!
Believe it or not, that mower was bought from me by my next door neighbor and is still running to this day!

I would recommend a bottle of bourbon and a case of beer for that learning curve. Just speaking from experience.

1st off, a laptop is no different than a desktop computer, other then they tend to have a limited lifetime. You might consider putting it into a docking station so that you can use a regular keyboard and as big a monitor as you'd like to have available.
My old Dell desktop is 8 1/2 years old, few keep a computer that long, after I blew the dust out of it last Monday it works perfectly.
I don't doubt it works fine, but it will not support today's operating systems and probably will not support modern up to date browsers and other software, (and then printers that the new drivers will not run on it) which will leave it vulnerable to viruses and worse..... If it works fine and you have a printer that you like to use, I'd actually keep your old desktop, and use it as a stand-alone word processor or whatever else you might use it for keeping it off-line. You might find that the new operating system in the laptop will not support your old printer. When I moved to Win 7, one of my printers became obsolete and is now slaved to an XP machine since I have ~3 years of print cartridges available.
Lastly, all of this is so simple that a 6 year old can deal with it for you; somebody get a 6 year old!!!
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.
Re: Hobo Jungle
My printer that I got at the same time as my old Dell desktop died awhile ago. I never used it and I understand thats why it quit. Since I use one so seldom and there unreliable in my opinion I'm not buying another until they get much more reliable and the ink isn't so ridiculously expensive.
