Jim Thorpe.He was still talked about when I was a kid when the subject of great athletes arose.
Apparently some older folks in my neighbor hood,including my grandfather,had seen him play football or baseball.
I think that there were others from that school that were well known.

Dunno when the foto was taken, 20's?, but the "Souvenirs Novelties" seems to indicate that the proprietor was taking advantage of an emerging automobile based tourist business.

Rufus, That "Rock Cut" view is excellent - very instructive for guys building a layout or wanting to refine the one they have. Really nice!

Probably in the 20's at the latest. Pen-Mar is/was a resort park that was serviced by the CG&W trolley line (pictures to post in the near future...), and RR's then. I remember seeing all sorts of souvenir glassware items when I was in the collectables market/business 30+ years ago.

I probably have a more original untinted version of that card somewhere, but the colorized one is nice. Lots of ballast on that track, too!

I was out to Pen Mar this past weekend...it's a Washington County park now, situated on the footprint of the original WMRR park. There's a very small museum there with alot of memorabilia from the original park, and there are markers that designate where the carousel, pavilions, racer-dip and miniature railroad were. It still draws a big crowd on a nice day, lots of picnickers.

A mile up the road from Pen Mar is High Rock, which offers a pretty spectacular view.

Only the rock out-cropping and some of the concrete foundation for the old tower remain, but the view is as good as ever.

Found that I do have a picture of a CG&W trolley stopped right in front of Popcorn Jim's.
