Murph,

Are you pulling my leg to get back at me for pulling your leg? That is the real Roger Carp. The November CTT has a photo of the real Frank53 standing in the same position in his late train room.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... rases.html

As a bonus, Carl Swanson actually pronounces Frank53's name in this promotional video:

http://ctt.trains.com/Videos/Issue%20Pr ... issue.aspx

Sounds like "Frank Nowts" as in "now its."

Frank gives a "Lesson Learned" on his web site, "I would very much like to build a better layout – a more well planned, easier to work on, more enjoyable to run layout. I don't miss climbing up on the train table to fix a derailment or getting my hands stuck in telephone wires, or having my shirt sleeve knock a sign loose."

Frank53 learned more lessons on tear down: http://www.ogaugehobbyist.com/wp/forum/ ... tear-down/

Build and take notes for the day you tear it down, an interesting concept.

Immersion in this hobby has been, for me, a BIG learning process, and that includes attendance on its forums. The opportunities to meet so many remarkable people have been profound, IMO.

MurphOnMillerAve wrote:Oh, and by the way, MTJ educational moment fans, I have duly noted that mammal users have not attempted to milk any bison cows, either. Probably a wise move. Bison don't seem like li'l buggers one would cuddle-up to and reach for a teat (or anything else, for that matter.) When I was in full kidhood, we used to be able to visit a herd of bison at South Park, outside Pittsburgh, PA. I loved seeing them, but they gave off the vibes that we were not welcome to tickle their chin-y-chin-chins, or tweak their ears, or pull a tail, for example. We kept our distance, though able to face them rather intimately through a fence, quite closely.

Someone must have tried to milk an American buffalo Murph, however, an internet search indicates you are absolutely correct.

Scientifically, the term "buffalo" is incorrect for the North American species; its proper Latin name is Bison Bison. You use of "bison" is very correct, however, common usage has made the term "buffalo" an acceptable synonym for the American bison, so we are ok with buffalo. [opinion]

The American buffalo are undomesticated animals. If you try to approach them in the field to milk them, they run away. (Unless they have calves, in which case you run away.) Buffalo can be trained to a certain extent. If you can get them to go into the barn and stick their heads in milking stanchions, you will find they tend to panic when you close the stanchion. If you are patient and they get used to having their heads locked in the milking stanchion, you can try to milk them. It is almost guaranteed they are going to kick you when you touch their teats. (My grandfather had one dairy cow that always kicked when I milked her. I think she was ticklish.) Once you get the buffalo cow trained not to kick, you will come to the real reason American buffalo are never milked, the teats on female buffalo are too small for hand milking. (How convenient it is domestic cows have teats that just fit a farmer's hands.)

This one looks like it has a Small Block Ford Engine.

Did it come that way or is it modified.
