Bee came in for landing while photographing the flower. Shutter speed 1/400 sec was not fast enough to freeze flight of bee.

Cool photo Sarge.

We have humming birds here also. Often one bird will hang around, taking possession of the feeder. Once a bunch of migrating humming birds showed up and the owner of the feeder tried to defend it. As he shot straight up out of sight after one migrator all the others drank from his feeder.

In the spring and fall when migrators come through I am always surprised how fast the sugar water in the feeder goes down.

Over the early part of the summer, we had one female and a couple immatures as the entire crowd, but four feeders out around the house. They hide in the holly trees and cheerfully range about to the feeders.

Lately, though, the population has increased dramatically as new arrivals each in turn learn the availability of free food. Aggressive and territorial little things, so lots of zooming about and fanning of tails to look intimidating. Lately a miniature version of the Battle of Britain being fought here at Dungfield Manor.

My first summer as a pensioner; lots of fun seeing what goes on at my own house during the daylight hours for the first time in my life...

The other day I was out in the driveway tightening up a few bolts on my Wheelhorse (the one in the Tractor Thread) and four of them were chasing each other around, suddenly fell into a trail formation, "pulled the teat" and roared past my ear at a generous six-inch leeway. Beautiful formation-keeping and I'd swear I could hear the little prats laughing like hell when they went by.

They are so cool...
