Same here...sorry to hear that Jim has left us. Always enjoyed his posts. Heartfelt condolences to his family, and to us for that matter. He'll be missed.

How did we ever miss this??? His posts here were always great stuff and his enthusiasm for setting up every Christmas for the grandkids was a joy. Very sad.

How did we miss this?Someone mentioned San not long ago.we have not heard from him in many years.
There are others that spend some time on MTJ and apparently move onto other things and don't want
to be bothered by us.So we let them slip away.

I think the "missing this" and the "slipping away" have a more profound reason than that. We are individuals tapping away on keyboards, attached by our individual wills to others very temporarily - minute by minute; even day by day, maybe - and when we go, no bereaved are going to contact a forum to tell the news.

I was reminded of the tenuousness and fragility of our "connections" to one another on a forum like MTJ by the electricity being out here in my communty for several days, some time ago. The separation between me and the acquaintances I had made and sustained on a couple forums was TOTAL, all of a sudden. I had only vague impressions of where any of the voices on this forum might have been as I looked up at a very dark night sky.

Connections like the one Hev and Dirt share, for example, are rare, I would theorize.

When I "go", who here would know? I'd no longer be here to tap out on my keyboard that I was gone.

Murph,

Very true. And when we do "go" not many on a forum will know, care or miss us.
I feel like there are some posters on this forum that I have actually met and have become friends with.
I have met only four or five personally, talked to about the same number on the phone but seem to know many more.
there are many more that I would like to meet and many that I would like to know better.

Mitch, sorry about your pup. Comes a time it just seems merciful, much as you know you're going to miss them. Last two dogs we had, which were my wife's, we put down. She bawled like a baby each time.

Weird, on a forum. People disappear, and though it's only an internet connection, you feel like you've grown to know them, and the 'missing' of them is very real. True of Tramp's Mom. Jim's gone for sure, San is MIA, both were gentle and thoughtful souls.

It being Memorial Day, and considering the current mood of this thread, I'll put this up again, for a variety of reasons.

And thanks to the veterans.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Memorial/Decoration Day has always affected me since about mid WW II when I realized what those banners hanging in windows with gold stars meant.
I was in the second grade when it started and have not forgotten how it affected our small town. There was a billboard in the city park where KIAs and MIAs
were posted daily. It would start to draw a crowd every evening about six. There are monuments/memorials in the city park for those killed and missing
starting with the Civil War,or as known in this area, the War of Northern Aggression.
Where I live now posts flags with names of those from WW I up.Town was founded in 1905.
Memorial Day seemed to be a bigger deal in Ohio and the north than in the south.I participated in many parades in Ohio for remembering the past and the present and the sacrifices of our military.

Thanks,Dirt, for reminding me with In Flanders Field.

I just heard on the radio there is a wreck on the freeway near me, I'm going to a BBQ later but I don't need to use the freeway today.

Is this sort of like the Coffee Pot on CTT? I used to post there all the time, their forum policy strictly forbids anything resembling political as they say it causes fights and I continually tried to push the edge of that. I knew it was risky and I might get in trouble but I did it anyway. I learned my lesson and won't do it here. Anyway the moderator really made me feel bad, it was and is weird, You know people only through the typed word and don't really know them at all and it really upset me, and I'm not like that at all. I haven't been put on moderated status, I can still post there, I just don't want to.

Thanks, Pete, for the condolences and the remembrance of those who sacrificed for God and Country. Hazel was cleaning up his food and water bowls this morning, and scrubbing up the stand where they sat when I came in from outside and found her crying. She'll mourn for a while, and then I'm sure I'm gonna hear about another Dane at the shelter.

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone! :P :P

You've ,no doubt, heard the expression, Actions speak louder than words.
Here, as on other forums, I would suggest the axiom is: Words speak. Period.

Not like CTT or OGR forums or any others here.Almost anything can be discussed.
Try not to push someone "over the edge".That may lock or have a topic removed.
Others here know better than I what can be done and not.

I was a teacher and, contrary to popular opinion, never had a paid vacation or holiday.
Teachers get paid for working so many days[varies by state and school district]
and have their salary divided by 12,24 or 26 to spread their pay over a year.

I'm still in shock after reading Wayne's post that Jimmy passed back in Nov of last year. He was a really hevy dude I met here on the form and had the chance of meeting him in person at the Cherry Hill Crossing at the Strasburg Railroad a few years back. The last time I talk to him he told me he had to have some surgery done again and that he wasn't feelin' all that great.

Here are a couple of pics of Jimmy and me at the Cherry Hill crossing.

Here is Jimmy standing next to the hevy chevy.................
