How come no one models steam trains coming right through the streets of a city? I know there's a prototype for this in upper NY state, but I can't remember where. It's a fantastic look in my opinion if set in the late thirties, early forties. Any thoughts?

Wheeling,WV also had a line run down the middle of several streets.If I remember correctly,this was the passenger line from Pittsburgh,PA to the passenger station.Lexington,KY had a similar situation with the C&O.I'm sure there are more.

I think you will find it was pretty commonplace. Just one of many things killed off by the automobile. The government of this country made a serious miscue when it let the rail systems go to hell in favor of the Interstate highway system.

Kent Johnson built tracks through downtown on CTT's Readers' Choice railroad. He used Lionel SuperStreets and FasTrack. (Steam engines possible.)

I used to be fascinated to see Pacific Electric Railroad freight motors pulling freight cars down the middle of the street, downtown Long Beach, CA. (No steam engines. )

Spring arrived last weekend. At least that is what the poppies are saying


Right behind the poppies came the weeds.


I started to plow the weeds under when I noticed they had flowers. I spent my weed time trying to photograph the flowers (man are they tiny) rather than plowing them under.

Are those "weeds" with the yellow flowers some type of cactus?

Not a cactus, it is a conspicuously bristly yellowish/orange annual weed, covered by stiff harsh hairs.
It grows to 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet high (mine are one foot high.) It is called Amsinckia intermedia and is in the Borage family.

Importance: It is relished by deer and livestock when young, and in years of good winter moisture may form an important part of the spring forage on desert ranges.

Hazards: I have no problem from handling the weeds (although I take precaution of gloves when pulling them.) The mature seeds have been demonstrated to cause hepatic cirrhosis, known as "hard liver disease" of cattle and swine, and the "walking disease" of horses. Sheep are either immune or highly resistant to the poison.

Went to Tucson Rodeo today. One of my favorite events is steer wrestling (aka: bulldogging.) This steer headed straight at me giving this head-on shot.
