Jon,

You seem to be forgetting this: "My wife has infomed me I won't be doing that (playing trains) as she has planned on me installing two hard wood floors in our home. And just like all other husbands, I'll dutifully oblige the request after checking my attitude meter."?

Payback is hell.

Here you go, Jon! Here's a few pix of the last floor that I did in my house for a little inspiration:

I still have a living room to do and am considering some sort of pattern a la Escher using at least 2 different woods. I figured if I was going to be putting down hardwood flooring that I was going to do what I wanted and have a little fun with it, too.

Rufus, that is very impressive. Did you measure the gap with a tape and then cut to fit or place the board to be cut on the floor and mark it off boards already laid? I like the way you solved matching the border with your out of square walls. Most people just use thick base boards.

Jon, if you need to learn about hardwood flooring, you can go to BuildDirect University.: http://www.builddirect.com/Hardwood-Flo ... oring.aspx

Thanks!

Every board was individually picked out, measured in place, and cut to fit. Every board was then pre-drilled before nailing in place. The little "fringe" around the room was a solution to a problem of being unable to continue the pattern to the wall and toenail those boards down - could have glued them down, I guess.

The room was actually surprisingly close to square

There are base boards around the edges now and I had to add a little transition to the tile outside the room - used a bit of Cherry for contrast.

Got to love this translation from an outstanding model car company's sales brochure:

1. The wooden base is made of wood with a bottom covered in sleaze. The face of the base is inlaid with a mirror-like surface as well as a CMC logo.

Not quite sure what a bottom covered in sleaze is, but the mind churns with the possibilities. Jon might know.
