Thing is with the Beltway, and all the construction on it, every morning there's a good chance that the road won't be where it was the day before - factor that in with about 30% of the drivers not being qualfied to even be inside a moving vehicle, and one's morning commute is a daily adventure!

I've driven in and around Manhattan, and throughout New Jersey, for decades, but driving from a northern suburb (Gordon College) in Massachusetts, and from a westward direction into Boston, one summer, during morning-rush and during 5 o'clock traffic, I experienced the most aggressive on-your-ass, get-the-helloutofthe-fast-lane-traffic I have ever battled. It was even more threatening than driving from Selden, Long Island back to NJ on a Saturday might.

Worst place I've EVER driven: Rome. Then Atlanta. Then DC/Baltimore. I understand that the LA area is getting almost as bad, but I'll never see it.

DC and Boston tied in the American league; both are horribly confusing places with DC a little more aggressive. NYC might be in there, too, more for density.

World Cup goes to Paris. Never drive in Paris with Forces plates on your car.

Lanes that disappear, left hand exits, streets that change their name for a couple blocks and then change back! Then toss in people on cell phones, texting, eating, shaving, reading the paper, doesn't get any better than that!

Depending where you are going, RT 17, the "Coast Highway" can be a very nice relaxing, scenic alternative to I-95 aka "the Highway from Hell"!

I drove from Virginia Beach to Alexandria, Va via 17 while a friend used I-64, I-95, 495 and we were 5 minutes apart on arrival. I am guessing you could take 17 from Georgia to Fredericksburg, VA and miss a large chunk of the rat race. Not sure about North of there.

Yes,north of there are where the problems start [for me].I use US17 quite often when going to Florida.
I usually use I-77 and I-81 t0 Scranton and then go east from there.Sometimes I get to see more trains this way.

That being the case, you could stay on 17 to Winchester, VA where you could pick up I-81 to Scranton and then catch I-84 to the bridge at Newburgh, NY and head North to Poughkeepsie just after crossing the Hudson.

If you were to get off I-81 onto rts 11/15 South just before it crosses the Susquehanna River, you could check out the Enola yard. There are several railfanning vantage points where you can view the yard.

Does it really? Time flies...... I shall have to change my signature line to something....ahem....appropriate,

Although, it is difficult to discern what is different about the next month's self-denial as opposed to the rest of the year's expressions of self-denial.....all too many already have a tenuous at best grasp on reality already.
