Jon,

You looking for a car to be different in? How about my Goggomobile?
Image
Hans Glas Goggomobile
TS 300 specifications and performance:
Configuration — Glas 2-stroke rear engine, 298 cc displacement
Engine — 2 cylinder, 2 stroke, air-cooled, 58 x 56 mm. bore and stroke, 6.0:1 compression, 15 hp. at 5,000 rpm, 17.4 lb·ft torque.
Transmission — 4 speed plus reverse.
Top Speed — 53 mph (On a trip to San Francisco from Los Angeles, I jammed the throttle through the firewall for most of the trip and saw 57 mph on a down hill section.)
Tires — 4.80 x 10 inch.
Weight — 926 lb (I was able to park the rear, get out, pick up the front and walk it into a tight parking space only twelve feet wide.)
Wheelbase — 71 in
Height - 49 in
Length - 114.5 in
Width - 53 in
Cost: $30 was high bid at the Los Angeles docks. I purchased two (one for parts because there was no other source for parts.)

The trip to S.F. yeilded 42.2 mpg, most of that driven flat out.

Acceleration was specified as 0-50 mph (80 km/h) in 27.9 seconds. That must have been on an empty tank with their smallest test driver. I timed it and got 30.1 seconds.

I'll sell one to you cheap. How about $12,000 plus shipping? (They are very rare.) You will be a real hit driving up to the hanger in a Goggomobile.

Oh man, Wayne, you just have to mention those carriage lamps, too. Such a touch! Talk about distinguishing oneself via machinery! :D

Wayne, thanks for the offer, but I'd find it more pleasurable to be jabbed in the eye with a sharp stick then be seen behind the wheel of that thing!

Wayne,

After looking at the specs you listed,I think that it's a disguised motorcycle.  :)

My first car was a 1952 used Chevrolet.I was able to get 57 mph down hill with a tail wind and 16 mpg. This car may be the reason I never bought another GM product. We,wife and I,did put 65,000 miles on it in ten months.
By the way,gas was 21.9 cents a gallon.
Do I miss those days?NO!

Sorry to disappoint Murph. Those are turn signals. I used to be jealous of the Renaults which had a little flag that popped out to indicate a turn. All I had was blinking lights.

You are making me cry... from laughing.

The engine had two opposed aircooled cylinders and looked a lot like BMW motorcycle engine.

Gave up bikes a number of years ago after coming to Ca. To many crazy drivers out here then and it has only gotten worse.
But one of these look like they would be an absolute blast to drive.

I actually think the Gogomobile is quite cool! I like two stroke engines anyway, loved the original 3 cylinder 2 stroke Saabs.

A bit of work and that thing could be dead useful in the City!

One has to wonder if some of the same Bavarians that produced Isettas at BMW had a hand in this. :D

Apparently they did. BMW took over the company before they launched the Isetta. The earliest Goggomobils had the self same opening front. Perhaps BMW acquired the company to get the patent rights? Seems unlikely but maybe they did to get the talents.

That's real funny Jon.

Bikermike took pity on me and offered to "tune-up" the engine in my Goggomobile. He even moved the exhaust to side-ports on both sides. Here is a photo of him starting the tuned engine.

Here is the "tuned" Goggomobile on a test drive.

It is a hot ride now. Are you sure you won't change your mind?

On a more serious note, there is a point of "going green" that becomes irrational. Although I'm as unhappy as anyone else when gas prices rise, the chances of my family surviving an accident in a Chevy Suburban compared to a Gogo are far better.

OK Jon. If anyone else is interested I have listed it on ebay.
