Cats have a way, don't they, of finding exactly the most comfy spot in any room and can do it within a few seconds of first entering the room. Plus, they know their "staff" will keep it in proper order for them, too, right? Ya'gotta luv dem kitties! (I sure do, and we're keeping our eyes and hearts alert for one to choose us as worthy  , in the near future, we hope. :? )

P.S. If you've ever changed a kitty-litter box, you know that there's a humbling experience. Yeeegods. Did you know that if it is not done when kittah requires it, the stink can take your hearing and vision away, temporarily, if yer not careful? :| Huh? Huh? Oh man, I've come perilously close to those dangerous moments too many times in my life. I don't know what to compare it to, :( I tell ya' I've learned to toe the line, which may deem me as worthy for our next drama-queen/dude.

(Was that a rant?)

Murph:

Having had both over the years, I firmly believe the following:

"You live with a cat. You live for a dog."

However, at this point I'm beginning to get the idea that perhaps these furry felons are taking advantage.

Sarge, I've only known two dogs in my lifetime as my own, and they both seemed like somebody I'd like to keep company with again someday. Of the several cats I've co-habitated with, the last one - Noel - was a personality I enjoyed every day. She was white w/blue eyes. We miss her.

You do not own a cat; cats do more that take advantage, but take over and merely tolerate those humans whose existence that they see fit to even acknowledge. Once you get that role established, you can come to a negotiated surrender.

Three months of disorder and expense!

And for whose benefit, as it turns out?

That's nice, Sarge. A new playroom for your cats!

After all, pussies love surprises.

Sometimes it's absolutely frightening how similar our lives have become! Are you sure we aren't a shadowy reflection of each other?

Yours looks to be in as good condition as mine, too!

Got yer back, Mate!

Murph,
I'll say that I do enjoy their company; there have been cats in the home all my life, something I truly missed in the travels of the military life. As I type this, the grey (a delightfully cranky old church lady of some 16 summers) is stretched out on my lap. There are smart ones, clever ones, and dolts. I favor Manx cats, a very very powerful animal for their size yet a very cheerful and social breed.

Dogs I take one at a time. I've had some wonderful dogs and some absolutely loathsome excuses. To this day, first hand evidence points to a certain Basset as quite probably the stupidest work of a Prodigal Creator. I'm hard pressed to grant that that dog was even aware of his own ***.

Now, there's a line I'm going to find uses for.

I thought that was true about Afghans (the dog w/ the white-ish/blonde silky coat and floppy, dark gray-tipped ears; long narrow head) , that they were so stupid they could walk along and not even realize they were having a bowel movement, eh?
