Yeah, it would probably kill me, but what a way to go!! 8)

SURE, here’s the powerhouse and car-barn in it’s heyday…

Image

...and this next picture with a kitchen/porches added, because after electricity was purchased elsewhere and the powerhouse was no longer needed, those two buildings were converted into a dance hall, as a means to keep customers to continue to use the trolley. After all, it was a lack of revenue that finally did it under...

Image

…and here’s a foundation wall in the woods, which I presume is from the long car-barn…

Image

…and near this, the bazillion bricks that appear to be walls simply knocked over and leveled…

Image

…but here’s the neat part,- a picture of the original boilers ‘in-situ’…

Image

…and what me and my daughter found when we went exploring in the woods…

Image

Image

...this boiler being found in what was the car-barn, to where it had apparently been moved in the renovations to make the powerhouse into a dance hall...

Image

Image

…and it leads me to wonder, if they knocked down the walls, what artifacts may be yet lying hidden under the bricks, tools, hardware, car-wheels, you never know. I’d love to get permission to do some serious exploring.
The redhead wants me to replace our front walkway, currently concrete ‘fake-brick’ blocks, with real bricks, and I showed her what was laying in the woods, and she said that that would be fine with her, to use those bricks for the walkway. How cool would THAT be, knowing their history?

Wouldn't a preliminary check at the local City Hall records yield info on who owns the property? Or ask the local sheriff? Somebody might even appreciate your, somewhat, tidying up the site a little by removing some of those bricks. I'd ask around, rather than feel I had to look over my shoulder as I loaded brick onto my truck.

Dirt I agree with Andre about that boiler, that'd be the mailbox to beat! Better even than a milkchurn or even better still, turn it into the barbecue from hell!

LOL, thanks for the support!

From work, I directed the wife to the website, and said how cool I thought that boiler would look in the living room.

I believe she's preparing an 'executive order'.

:( :D

Neat little piece of history, however!
And again, I have a burning curiosity to see if anything's under the bricks.

Yeah, I'll bet there's all sort of iron/metal thing-a-ma-jiggers; maybe, even tools left where they were used or dropped when demolition took place; maybe, some of those metal star-things builders used to place on the outside of walls in the 19th Century to help hold them straight and true.

Be careful w/ those fingers, Pete. Take a crowbar w/ you, at least, to use as an extension of your hands as you explore what's under those bricks. And no smashed toes either. Be cool 8) and safe. :)

Pete, Your story reminds me of one of my dad's mad adventures! As kids growing up in upstate New York my dad happened upon an old abandoned textile mill in Troy, N.Y. that was ripe with pickings of old brick. Seven or eight Nomad Chevy wagon fills and we had a dandy backyard patio! I always imagined that somewhere behind that mill I'd find the last remaining NYC Hudson...... Such are dreams.
