A fireless locomotive is a type of locomotive designed for use under conditions restricted by either the presence of flammable material (such as in mines) or the need for cleanliness (such as at a food factory). They were used around powder works, lumber yards, sugar refineries, and other areas where sparks and smoke pose a fire hazzard. It might have been used to shunt coal at the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company.

A fireless steam locomotive is similar to a conventional steam locomotive, but has a reservoir, known as a steam accumulator, instead of a boiler. This reservoir is partly filled with water and charged with steam from a stationary boiler. The locomotive can then work on the stored steam until the pressure has dropped to a minimum level, after which it must be recharged.

Know the area well...If you stay on rt.#61 and go up the hill at the end of town, you go to the top of the hill and on the left side of the road in (HOMETOWN. PA) there is a restaurant and bar called the Beacon. My wife and I have eaten there about 10 times. If fact I call it an AREA stop..."Anytime you are in the AREA you stop and have a bite to eat.

What we oughta do is pick a Saturday late in October and all of us meet at Horseshoe Curve. Hev could pick up Pete with the horse and buggy, and me and Marty can find our own way. We could watch trains for awhile, then grab somethin' to eat and drink and converse a bit. Mother Nature should be in full color by the third or fourth week. How 'bout it.

Mitch, I missed this yesterday. Sounds great to me!! I've never seen Horseshoe Curve, and if either of youse guys could make it, it would be awesome beyond all recognition.
