You are one hundred per cent correct that flag etiquette is not a trivial matter. I agree w/ you fully; in fact, I am glad for the conversation you have inspired here. It was good to learn the answer to your inquiry.
On that theme, can you tell me, guys, when flying our flag from the front porch of our house, along w/ two other flags - one for trains, and one for various holidays - if you are facing the house, should the flag for our country be seen on the viewer's right or on his left? Therefore, standing on my porch, looking out at the street, I have it on my left. Properly done?
And while we are on this topic, I must confess that when a U.S. flag gets worn out or tattered, we give it to a VFW member for proper disposal. We
do not simply throw it in the garbage. Perhaps, that is old fashioned of us, but for us the flag of this country represents far too much glory, triumph, suffering, prestige, accomplishment, valiant service by millions in our history, and a whole people who are good and generous and grand at heart, hard-working and fair, brave and adventurous - to the core - for simple disposal of a worn flag to be taken casually. IMO.
