I may have just bought my last train item

Postby v8vega » Sun Aug 19, 2018 8:38 pm

This will be real unpopular to say but I may have just bought my last train item. A lionel Rio Grande GP-7. I already have one and I like to double head these plastic gear GP’s, they run better and smoother with two.
I started buying in 83 and for a long time I was really active and bought a lot. So much is in boxes I don’t even know what all I have.
I’m 75 now and have really slowed up buying, I have plenty to run and plenty to work on although now I doubt that I’ll ever get to a lot of it.
I have a lot of 027 type stuff that I understand is practically worthless if I try to sell a bulk of it to a auction house like Trainz so I’ll just hang on to it.

Do what you think is right for yourself, and let others opinions be d*mned! When they start paying for your stuff, then they can comment on what you buy! Until that point, it is no one's business but yours.

Take care,
Rich

I, too, have just about reached that point; with a few exceptions. I currently have no layout and probably never will now, so why buy any more? I am mainly talking 2-rail and trolley; I do have a loop or Atlas 3-rail on the floor but it has not been run for quite a long time. Am I losing interest? NO, I still enjoy seeing the gates come down as I approach the crossing so I can get in some train-watching time, but my ambition for building has gone.

Not really. I've been selling off excess inventory of rolling stock, kits that I simply have no real interest in now, almost every structure that is not going on my layout, and piles of excess scenery supplies.

Ok, I still buy detail parts to build and finish kits and to do rebuilds, but little else anymore.

In the meantime I fullt encourage all to continue their compulsive buying at least until I am done selling off stuff!

I find that as the years pile up, ambition is inversely proportional to age. As for what is done and how, until SUBSTANTIAL sponsorship has been provided by some benevolent entity, I will do as I d*mn well please.....and if I ever put something on display and an ill informed "guest" calls it a "shelf queen", they will be escorted off the property.
