I recall there was a post a long time ago about using keywords on eBay but I could not even find my own posts in a search here.
It seems like eBay got rid of the 0 scale 2 rail section of ebay and I get all types of nonsense when I try to search for stuff now. I recall there were some good suggestions in the post that helped but I can't find that post. When I search for O scale 2 rail I still get all kinds of 3 rail and HO stuff.

Re: Keywords and eBay
Chris,
Maybe someone has a better way to use the interface, but I usually just search for what I want up top and then as long as I get to the model railroards & Trains category, there is a Gauge section and I just Click O.
For example, I just did a search from the homepage for "Norfolk and Western", it auto-selected the Railroads & Trains subcategory under Model Railroads & Trains. I then click the box next to O under "Gauge" section.
It has 687 results. It does rely on the seller to put their item in the right category and gauge. I've seen enough examples where some sellers are not good at this.
I think I just figured out how to fix one issue. If you search for something, get your options setup the way you want it...O Gauge and model trains category, you can select the "Model Railroads & Trains subcategory in the search toolbar up top and it will make these options sticky. Atleast the few times I just tried it. So maybe that makes it easier to do repeated searches. Then again I'm rarely searching on ebay anymore.
Otherwise keywords I used to use were:
"2R"
"brass"
"resin"
"custom"
and a few random railroads that I have interest in, but I have saved searches setup for a handful of things I priotize getting some day.
I also toggle auction sometimes, as usually there is a lot of BIN trash in the listings.
