Hello Rich (E7) !

Thanks for the / my name plug and nice comments and calling up ONE of my my still not purged threads with my models from 2018.

I still check in here (MTJ) from time to time but generally stopped posting my last layout (EL & trolley) model photos since March 18, 2018, last year, because it seems that for quite some long time previously, there was very little to no regular activity here at this "subways" forum. And MOST of the regular posts at this forum then were generally only mine and my models --- almost like the "Joe Frank Show" (heh). I didn't want to give an impression that I "hijacked" the forum so I stopped posting my stuff for the duration - up until those trolley photos last (2018) year that you found and pulled back up (the page thread) and posted for Roger.

I am on Facebook now and post at various sites there more regularly -- seems many scores of viewers there comment daily on my stuff (models, layout, etc) .

I have two long time on line layout photo websites also. One of them had links to my layout-photos pages of all my MTJ and OGR Subways forums threads I had started over the past years. But most of the MTJ threads got deleted in the storage purges from time to time.

To see the newest images on my HO Scale NY EL & trolley Layout, and my present O Scale NY EL & Trolley Layout, and my 40' x 15 HO mainline railroad operating shelf layout -- here are links BELOW to those websites or photo albums list page.

My FLICKR main (Photostream) Page of Layout photos. The newest go to top of page one -- https://www.flickr.com/photos/44268069@N00/page1

My FLICKR PHOTO ALBUMS (*) display page (click each album to open for its photos) -- https://www.flickr.com/photos/44268069@N00/albums

In the ALBUMS (*) PAGE you will find the Albums for my HO RR Layout and the two albums of older and newest photos of my HO Scale NY EL Layout to click on to them to see all their photos

Here is the link to my YOU TUBE account Layout Videos Page -- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEnC6u ... 9Kg/videos

Here BELOW is the link to a Layout Photo website I wrote (created) myself with HTML coding -- from many years ago - before I got the FLICKR sites.

This should keep anyone who may be interested - very busy looking at all of it. And a person can save the website links for fast anytime lookup.

Regards - Joe F

Joe,

Thanks for the info! Obviously I can't speak for everyone here, but I suspect most of us enjoy your posts!

In the course of researching other projects, I stumbled onto the story of Matthias Forney, a local who's credited with design/refinement of the steam locomotive type used by the NYC and Chicago Elevated railroads (among others) prior to their electrification. I looked him up on Find-A-Grave, and as there was no accompanying detail, I added a few bits, plus a photo from the Railway Age Gazette. Here's an example of a Forney:

Always fun to find a local boy who made good.

Trolleys disgorging passengers downtown from the Bethlehem Fairfield shipyard, Baltimore, 1943:

Talked with guys from the H&F historical society on Sat. There are 4 H&F cars still in existence albeit not operational, but 3 seemed preserved for visiting and looking at while the 4th is apparently privately owned, but at least under shelter.

Swung through Thurmont today on the way up to Monterey. Took a look at H&F #5, or what's left of it, which sits in static display adjacent to the old H&F substation in town:

Just a shell sitting on a pair of trucks, as the traction gear is all gone. Still, it's nice they made an effort to preserve it. The pedestrian crosswalk in the first picture lies atop the former H&F right-of-way. Three hundred yards to the left (north) would be the interchange with the Western Maryland, while to the right would be the H&F mainline continuing south toward Frederick (this short section in Thurmont preserved as a rails-to-trails park).

Beautiful day in the mountains today, but the rains were rolling in by mid-afternoon.

A bit of #7 work car peeking out in the background there, too.

Nice photos though of #5 then and now - sad that it's just sitting on from freight trucks, but still better than being totally lost. Looks to be a reasonably straightforward building project as well. Might have to stop in Thurmont with a yardstick and camera.

Looks like that side door had glazed panels in it in 1954...wondering if the 'now' pic shows the final unglazed treatment by H&F, or if that was something done years after retirement for security reasons...

Trolleys running over the fire-hose can be a problem, but not any more:
