Foam glue

Postby gregj410 » Thu Jun 08, 2023 7:35 pm

Anyone have an alternative method to gluing down a grass mat to foam? I’m using a grass mat as a base color and the woodland scenics foam tack glue works well but it’s pretty expensive. Looking for a less expensive alternative.

I put up my backdrops with Elmers rubber cement That might work for the mat too

3m 777 is a spray glue. It might eat foam it might not. Spray it on the grass mat and let it dry then press mat to foam. Every construction product has gone up in price. I bought tube of window sealer for $8.49. That stuff was $3.49.

Spray glue seems a good suggestion; I've used both Elmer's and Loctite spray adhesive on various surfaces to good effect. I've used it to bond paper onto styrofoam without issue (although I applied the spray glue to the paper, not directly to the foam).

In an unrelated bout of whining, it seems Loctite has stopped production of their GO2 glue, a clear pliable alternative to super-glue types. The problem was it had a relatively short shelf life, even unopened. The stuff was brilliant, though, and I used a crap-ton of it. GO2 was ~ $6 per tube, Loctite "Extreme", their nearest alternative, is $13-$14 per tube.

The first thing I think about when it comes to gluing stuff is construction adhesive, in particular, "Liquid Nails". I've used it with great success on different materials. It comes in various size containers.
