Happened by this store yesterday. I think they price based on evilbait sales.
There on a shelf was a MARX litho tin UP (I think) 4-wheel caboose. With those wind-up hooks for couplers.
$40.00. Geez, the amount of that stuff I've trashed over the years.
40 can't be right, can it?

Everybody has heard old Lionel is worth a lot and any old toy train
Re: Second Hand store observation
Had a guy walk into the store yesterday (big construction guy) and ask if we bought toy trains. He had no inventory list but said he had a CN coal dumper in mint condition with a number of nearly new coal hoppers (which he had bought here several years back) and wanted to get out of the hobby. The store doesn't deal in used trains and CN would have little value in Western PA, but I gave him the URL of the OGR buy / sell forum and advised him to join and then list the items with prices. He said he had someone with computer knowledge but was uninterested in anything to do with the Internet. He just wanted to play games with a controller.
I'm just shaking my head. If you aren't willing to move a muscle, how do you expect to get paid anything for these items (assuming they are in the stated condition)? What I suggested to him was the absolute minimum effort.
I'm sure someone will offer him 10 cents on the dollar and he'll take it. Can't fix stupid.
