Marx couplers- one-piece stampings, really CHEAP to make.Plus, as I recall from having some as a kid, they did work rather well.

Did Marx ever make a mechanical uncoupler for the scissor-coupler? I've not seen anything, but then I don't know much about their products. I can see a small tab on the side which, if manually depressed with a pencil or coffee stirrer, will separate the cars.

Okay, after a bit of consternation I added the shells of a couple putz-style houses to the two terraces. It seemed premature to do that until I realized that they were built back into the hillside and that the scenery would roll in behind them. To make that work, they have to be there when the scenic material is added. Might be a butchered-up mess, but I went ahead and cut the basic shells and glued them in:

I dug out my gallon jug of white glue; it should be way more than enough for this project (likely won't need more than two or three cups). Whatever's left is going up to Sarge for use in ballasting his pike. Planning to spend this evening tearing up paper bags.

This could be epic if it works.

Papered the mountain this AM:

Now it needs to cure for a day or two. A bit of touch-up with painters caulk, than we'll be ready to paint.

I was hoping to have this done by the end of the month, but I don't think I'm going to make it. Too much left to do.

Did a bit of work today for the county. On the way home I picked up a new pattern book from Michael's, then stopped and carved pumpkins with my daughter. Entries for 2022:

Not as nice and sharp as in prior years. Maybe the tools are giving out (or my eyes).

Had to do a bit of patching on the tunnel project last night. In the course of drying, I had a couple spots go concave on me (despite all of the webbing I added). I'll let it dry/cure today/tomorrow, then I can work on the portals and a few small gaps before it gets a first coat of paint.

Meanwhile, Howard Lamey sent me a few houses for the clockwork Christmas village. I'll post a few pics in a day or two.

Happy Halloween everybody! Hope you get nothing but chocolate in the pillowcase.

One down, one to go, then paint.

In 2012 I built this canyon. Loved the details but hated the less than desirable lack of scale look. After 12 years of pondering  I came up with a plan to make it look more scale. Went pretty well surprisingly. Before and after

Looks great to me. I always liked the look of a bridge plunging directly into or exiting a tunnel. There's one on the old Western Maryland mainline just south of Cumberland, Maryland that is pretty spectacular.

Your rock-work is really sharp. That's a skill I need to work on.

There is one on the B&O just across the river from Harper's Ferry.
