Gerard Station ID Help
Gerard Station ID Help
While attempting to inventory my Marx collection I'm trying to confirm the model number of the Marx Gerard Station I have, either No. 2959 or No. 2960. I have the three wiring post, illuminated version, as opposed to the two post whistling only one. Logic would suggest the higher model number is the lighted one, but I don't want to assume anything. I've seen photos online on EBay and even dealer sites with the same model number applied to either version, so I think I'm seeing mistakes in some cases and am searching for a reliable reference. And naturally I have no price guides or other written references as of yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

You mean like this?

2959 appears to be whistle only. A few non-ebay listings indicate that the 2970 also had an interior light. I haven't found any listings that distinguish the 2960 and the 2970.
This is picture of 2970. There appears to be a difference in the color scheme.

2970 looks like a gray roof?

Yes, that appears to be the one but I did see a listing or two with the lighted one identified as the 2959 as well:

And since my first post I also found the 2970, adding more confusion. It's not an end-of-the-world problem. I just want to note the correct model number on my inventory.

Re: Gerard Station ID Help
The two published books I have that include Marx equipment have the "59" as whistle only, no lights. Note: I edited the original post and it looks like 60/70 may be a difference in the paint/colors.

Re: Gerard Station ID Help
Thanks. I trust a published book over an individual auction listing so It seems to not be the 59. My roof is gray. I'm seeing everything from light gray to dark gray to a blueish color online. I suspect the photos of some might possibly be off as well.
