Williams is still around in the form of Williams by Bachman but they are only 60 years old (and still kicking). They've kind of become the new "Marx" but with a much nicer/upscale product.

Williams did produce a great alternative line of trains that were well-made and economically priced. But now, other than the Eggliner (which is just a novelty item for under the tree), are they still making anything? Or are they just dumping NOS through TrainWorld, Mario's, et al?

They did acquire some K-Line molds (e.g. RS-3) and they did upgrade their sound systems.

Made it race against time.

Brother, can you spare a dime?

Some might wonder why the buyer(s) of this line hasn't been announced yet. The reason has to be one of the following:
  • There is no buyer (yet).
  • The buyer hasn't got his financial act together yet. $$$
  • MTH and the buyer can't or haven't yet arrived at a price.
  • This is just another attempt at creating a feeding frenzy for European trains. "Hey, it's worked for everything else. Let's see if the suck er customers have any more money left."

More of the soap opera to come.

My wild guess is Menards has put a firm take it or leave it offer on the table for much of the remaining tooling. It's just going to take time for Wolf to realize the scrap dealer is his only other option.

In the mean time, there will be weekly special runs of 25 locomotives and the fanboys will be saying "MTH Lives."

They may announce stuff, but is anything really being delivered?

Yes, I think it will be. If there are enough of these small custom runs (and that appears to be the case), the factory will be kept busy. I expect that anything produced by the new MTH will come from tooling already in existence, though or undecorated back-stock liveried for the item du jour. Don't expect any radical new product. That's just speculation on my part.
