Well, they certainly butchered the name. Elliot Welz (not the tattoo artist Elliott Wells) was well known.
Not sure if a loose shell without documentation is worth $245, but you never know.

At least Trainz got their head out of their as....errr.....behind on TCA standards.
This one is R-5.

Elliot's line lives on, same masks, patterns, silk screening, so this may not even BE a Welz, without documentation:

Interestingly, to get one done is $125, about half of what Trainz wants.

I looked inside the shell photo, but what is the craftsman's name again?

Every time I ever saw it referenced or in print, like, oh, TCA, it was Welz.

Looks like stickers, not stampings (and two of them to make sure), and I even found one of his originals on-line last night for $119.

Not saying this one isn't a Welz, just very odd the price is double everywhere else, and the name on the sticker you could make yourself with a digital printer.....

Apparently the tag is NOT Welz.
He did stamp them (rubber stamp?) and not tag.

Certainly not the previous owner who may or may not have engaged Elliot to do the work and written the actual check....to Welz? Or Wells?

Is it really Welz, or a Vision Line 4899? Probably not, but why not diversify the discussion?

And the rubber stamp is black....on a freshly stripped, beaded, or painted silver insides?

We'll never know.....but rest assured, if it sells for 250, it will be double what a new one costs using Elliot's tooling...

That throws a whole new monkey wrench in "it's worth what it sells for".

For clowns that a short time ago proudly displayed and sold a Wells GG1....fortunately it is not the same shell as last one.
