Puzzler

Postby ScaleCraft » Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:29 pm

This seller has some strangely priced stuff. A GG-1 shell for $30 with stick on stripes. Homemade whistle car on what appears to be a caboose frame.

But this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-O-GAUGE ... 3793379404

Is really strange. I know how rare a big-door baggage is, and to a collector, yeah, price is...meh.

But when the seller states the obvious in the title of the ad "believe to be fake", and still asks "original" price, one wonders.
Heck, the sides of the opening aren't even straight or parallel.
50-75 for a decent small door, less for one messed with.

One wonders (and, no, not seller-bashing).

In the description: ".I BELIEVE THIS TO BE FAKE...THE FOUR DOORS INSIDE ARE THE LARGE DOORS..THE OPENING TO THE DOORS LOOK TOO SHINEY AND ROUGH TO BE CORRECT........IT IS ORIGINAL..YOU GET ALL IN THE PICTURE..."

Contradicts himself..........ask questions and/or walk away.........

Had a guy here local, probably 25 or more years ago, imagined himself to be a mover and shaker in the TCA buy/sell crowd.

Showed up with one of these large-door baggage cars. Gonna make a mint!
Until one of my buddies pointed out it had been de-skirted. Some PO had cut the skirts off between the truck cutouts.

Made it effectively worthless, except for trucks and ends.

Or maybe he picked up the common small-door baggage, filed out the openings, and used his doors...and here it is!

Understand something. He's from Wisconsin. It's the state I live in and why I buy postwar from sellers who do not live in this state.
