Last catalog 2017, brand new $1500.
I am finding a lot of these on the web, real cheap to $499, but hard to discern between this one and later ones (because a lot of them give a Manufacturer's Part Number as 1225, which both versions have that cab number).
However:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-LEGACY- ... 4589024879
Same part number. Used. $12,200.00, engine and tender only.
Even 700E's don't go for half of that, NIB.
Tell me what is wrong here.
Must be something special.

It appears that I have been severely underpricing my stuff at the local train show the last several years.
Maybe at the next one I will double my prices to $10.00 on the average.

With an auction site, there is always the possibility of the seller hoping to find a person who just doesn't know what the object is really worth, and has more money than knowledge. And of course, the possibility of a seller and sham bidders should be considered.

There is an abundance of foolish people with too much money.

I may be foolish but do not have too much money.
I have not found that to be so.
In any case, it is the combination of the two that seems prerequisite.

Always sellers who are on the lookout for an easy mark, especially since the lockdown caused sales to fall off at their used car lot.

That listing for $12,200 has ended on da bait.
However, seller has re-listed it, and now we know for certain he didn't accidentally put the decimal point two places over. Now only $9,000.00.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Legacy- ... 3344848675
I did find one of the uber-rare gold plated one of these sold for $429.00.
Stupidity? Greed? Playing on grandpa wanting the best for grandkids?

The Greenberg 2021 guide has it listed for $1500.
Is this model "rare" or just typical "evil-bait"?

Typical evilbait...setting a new price point to prove "it's worth what it sells for".

Maybe. But I have seen before listings "On ebay for $XXXX" and you KNOW folks who get hooked by these clowns don't look to see what it sold for...or see "ended" and think "sold".
So the next clown with one of these is gonna look on evilbait to see what it's worth.......BINGO!
$9,000.00.
Sets a new price point, even if it doesn't.
You would be surprised at how much mileage that ad and listing has across the algore.
Worthpoint, picclick, .it, .ca, all sorts of stuff.
Read it on the internet, so it has to be true, right?
