The Modelers Thread
Re: The Modelers Thread
Looks like a sharp kit that'll produce a nice model. A lot of of kits with resin components recommend washing the bits before using them to remove any residue; I do it, but probably not as thoroughly as the manufacturer would consider appropriate. I've never had any issues with paint adherence. Should be a fun build.

Looks great to me!!

Those are some crazy trucks; don’t think I’ve ever seen any like them.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Check out this magical process. The question is; can they print at 1:48 scale?

I hope the link works. See dopl.com too.

Re: The Modelers Thread
Greg, did you see that they have a location in Tysons, VA? I don't know how close that is to you.
Re: The Modelers Thread
Looks promising, but I'd be curious to see what their stuff looks like at 1-1/2 inches tall. It is an interesting application of the technology, but what's the business model and will they be around in 36 months...doubtful.

Yes, approx 2 hours. Maybe I’ll inquire about 1/4 scale at which time I’ll grab all my railroad attire and head to Va.

It’s a fair point as you have to be geographically located close to one to get photographed. They may have to break into the world a model rr and free lance figurines and other items. There are a lot of things that could be placed in the room, that could be used in 1/4” scale or other modeling. Now whether it can be profitable is another matter.
Re: The Modelers Thread
I've been poking around looking at 3D printing of late; the local library has a technology wing that supports numerous STEM type things, one being 3D printing. I've been thinking about buying some print files for the ship models, then go over there and try printing them (or having them printed). Unfortunately there are issues with file-format compatibility (the files are only offered in 3MF format, but the library only works with STL format), and the scale offered is 1/1250 and 1/1800, which means I have to scale them down to get to 1/2400 (my preferred scale). They tell me this is all do-able, I just gotta educate myself. Nothing's easy.
I'd be interested to understand how they print in color. I've seen stuff printed multicolor, but it's very unsophisticated, nothing like what these guys are doing. That part of the process looks phenomenal.

I feel like 3D printing will become a hobby in itself once you start getting involved with the process. I personally don’t want to get involved because of that. I’m in it for the trains and scenery and anything else would slow down my over all layout build.
However I look forward to the day when I can have any figure doing anything, painted and ready to go on the layout.

A few days ago, I happened to see a new product announcement of 1.3 mm eyeball decals. I was wondering what those could possibly be used on and now I know.

That’s a nice option considering the standard Marty Feldman eyes on the woodland scenics figures
