one step over the line
Re: one step over the line
Too much money to get back working.
That is a cool engine though. Remember looking at when I was a kid in the 1987 catalog. I think it was pictured as a set but you had to buy everything separately?

The hours of apprenticeship spent on a small scale line are richly rewarding - The Lionel Corp.

Yea, the mint cars were separate sale. And yes, too much money to get back to working. You can get a complete one with the same shell condition for 150

Two weeks after first posting here, they've dropped the price all the way to US $120.53
You save nearly nine bucks!
Description, including all the stuff NOT there, has remained the same.....

Many of their buy-it-now prices seem to automatically drop over time.

They drop them over time; time seems variable and at times they seem to start over at higher BIN prices.
Eventually they list them as an auction staring at 99 cents.

Yeah, I've seen that happen as well.
Eventually they list them as an auction staring at 99 cents.
And sometimes those end selling for 99 cents.

Re: one step over the line Trainz GG1
About a month later, no correction to erroneous description, but:
They raised the price!
Was $129, now $146.99.

I read one time that starting at 99 cents sometimes works good even thought it'a worth $150 because that starts a bidding war, where if you start at $150 no bids.

Turner does that; seems to work well with the psychology of auctions. I tend to price my stuff at ~25% of retail to make it go away; bidding wars are hoped for every week. But the real objective in my case is to make stuff go away.....

$142.58 Buy It Now
+$15.82 shipping
Free returns
Is the messing with BIN up and down some attempt to entice folks to buy this pile of parts for what a complete nice one goes for?
At least they updated the description:
"This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good. The frame is loose from the shell and all trucks/wheelsets are missing. There are scratches and scuff marks. There are some loose pieces. The original box is included. `imn Check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Good.
This item has not been tested and is sold as is. "
No idea what " `imn " means.

It means that whoever is re-listing stuff is too lazy to copy & paste when they are editing the prior listing. Seems endemic to their business model; move stuff as fast as possible, get whatever you can for it, don't worry about anything, and just move stuff out the door, right, wrong, or otherwise.

Re: one step over the line
and now at $138.17. Must be a method to their madness here.
Drop the exorbitant price to convince the clueless they are getting a "deal", then jack it up to convince those same targets (marks?) that they'd better buy NOW before the price goes up again?
I know...throw in that Elliot Wells shell....

Our buddy in Westminster, California. Complete mint set engine, and caboose, tested, too. Means all the wheels are there.
"Tested and works good. Comes in the original boxes. Engine has manual.
Caboose is lighted (Marker lights are included in box). "
At BIN $161, heck of a lot better deal than the incomplete pile of parts Trainz is trying to foist off.
