Atlanis models is re-issuing the old Revel 1/48 scale White-Fruehauf Gas Truck w/2 Figures from the mid 1950's. I think the original release was in red for Mobil. This one is green for Sinclair.

About $20

Revel also issued a 1/48 scale Ford pickup with a motorcycle cop, a Chevy stake truck and a Bekins moving van. No word yet on these but it would be nice to have some true 1/48 scale vehicles even if they are from the 1950's.

Very nice, Chuck!

I have the Revell Bekins Moving Van. I'll post a photo when I get a chance.

Oh! I just noticed that is now an Atlantis model? Atlantis bought the Revell USA dies, packaging, and rights when they went belly up (actually their parent company failed). Revell Germany still exists.

I had no idea they were re-issuing these! Wow!!!!

Yes, Atlantis now has the Aurora dies Revell acquired when Auroroa went out of business as well as the Renwall and Monogram kits that were part of the "library". Revell AG did hang on to the more recent and more detailed products including a lot of the later Monogram/Revell stuff. There are a number of old kits I hope they re-issue.

Jon called, kit came in Wednesday.

Some pictures.

This is the front and back of the box.

This is what is inside the box

Decals are new issue with Sinclair and US Army markings

This is what is inside the bag. The plastic is bright green, very close to Sinclair.

Image

The tooling is 60+ years old. Small amount of flash, a few mold sinks and ejector pin marks. About par for a model of this era. Flash is actually pretty "light" when compared to the BOMARC kit Revell re-released about two years ago.

Under construction

Only quibble/issue with the kit is a lack of clear plastic insert for the windows. There is a big blob pf clear plastic in the photo that is from an AMT/ERTL dump truck in 1/24 scale. The window insert goes inside the cab. I used some heavy duty Reynolds wrap to make a pattern and will cut the thin clear butyrate usually used to make vacuform RC airplane canopies. The windows are all flat, windshield is only slightly curved. I'll assemble the cab except the roof and install the windows at that time. I'm considering getting a second kit to get the wheels to kit bash other vehicles.

Engine/drive train included. Wheels rotate. Piping under the tank, even a fire extinguisher in the valve bay on the lower tank trailer side.

BTW, it seems to be scale. Trailer is just over 30 feet long, about 8 feet wide. The figure scales out at about 5'8". He has a mold sink in his "stomach". I may try to putty it up but that knocks out details that I probably can't carve back in.

Update. Not quite done but very close. Some touch up painting, decals, and cab windows. I had to hold off on installing the windows to paint the cab.

Rear bumper and ladder need some painting as does the fuel tank. Too damp and cold for outside and I don't feel like setting up the portable booth in the house right now. I was able to fill in the hole in the figures gut with putty (reminded me of "Death becomes her"). I like the kit and hope Atlantis re-issues the other truck in the set. It also provides a good size comparison for die cast cars.

Does anyone remember when Sinclair gas stations used to hand out dinosaur shaped bars of soap?

I don't remember that but I remember Shell stations giving away shell shaped ash trays.

I hope you guys read the warnings. Your model is not a toy, it is a dangerous choking hazard. Don't play with it.

There was an article in Fine Scale Modeler a long while back about IP concerns and responsibilities for scale model manufacturers. Our society is so litigious that Boing was worried about being sued because a kid got injured swallowing a propeller for a 1/72 scale B-17 (Revell didn't have deep enough pocket for the lawyer so he included Boing in the suit). If you don't license your trademarks/IP you risk losing control. If you do, you open yourself up to law suits as you "blessed" the replica. This is why licensing terms are so complicated (and expensive).

Putting decals on the tank and will finish that up tonight. You really should look at the assembly instructions with an eye towards final assembly/painting. Some of the steps are a little off, aka there will be no way to apply the decal or a detail part as it's now behind/inside something else. The lights were dotted with a Pilot silver paint marker and tinted with clear red/orange paints. Still need to "fix" the windows for the cab to finish it off. The side view mirrors are the most delicate pieces and of course the most fragile!

The model also compares favorably in size/scale to a Menards flat bed that's being kitbashed for some future construction vehicles.
