Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin killed Atlanta's Science & Technology Museum.
Although the museum has faced daunting challenges since it opened in 1988, there appeared to be enthusiasm for SciTrek's survival as late as May. SciTrek had just announced it was welcoming 100 freshmen into the new Tech High, a science and technology-oriented charter school housed in the museum. The school was to pay SciTrek about $7,500 a month in rent. In addition, the board was discussing more options to turn the museum around.
By about June, though, some members of the board became aware of the city of Atlanta's plans to redevelop the area around SciTrek and Tech High.
"We have many issues to contend with, not the least of which is the city of Atlanta itself and its proposed green-space initiative or development of this address," Coleman wrote in a June 17 e-mail to key board members. "Either one will reclaim the facility for other purposes."
During the board's July 26 meeting, Coleman discussed the city's plan, which "obviously calls for the demolition of SciTrek's building," the minutes state.
SciTrek sent a letter to Mayor Shirley Franklin objecting to the city's plan. Shortly after that, Coleman met with her.
According to Coleman, the mayor was concerned about the nearby Atlanta Civic Center's alcohol permit and said she would not sign another year's lease for Tech High. He said the city decided the school was too close to a facility that served alcohol. Two weeks later, on Aug. 20, SciTrek announced it was suspending operations.
The mayor's office did not return repeated phone calls seeking comment.

Just reinforcement that if you have a train layout, and want to control it's destiny, you better OWN the premises where it is housed.
Re: Layout from the defunct Science & Technology Museum of Atlanta (SciTrek)
Perhaps, they can find a new place for their Science & Technology museum, and the associated high school. My grandfather went to such a high school, which he referred to as "manual arts". He did very well, with no more than that education.

They're sometimes called trade schools....obviously they teach you a trade, which doesn't really happen in regular high schools. All the CRAP I learned in college, never made me a dime.
Sort of like that line in the Paul Simon song "Kodachrome"!
As for the train layout thing, it's happened enough times now folks should be getting the message.

So why do choose to act like an immature A-hole a large percentage of the time?

Figured I'd meet you on your level? You chose the stuff you took in college; if it failed to serve you, you made poor choices and decisions. If you're not your choices, then whose are you? You could join the millennials and blame it all on others...

Nice.
Y'all kiss your mothers with that mouth?
On the railroad.
I see tubular track. 031. I think I see 027 ties a couple of place. Broken bridges. Take the track off and the rest goes in the dumpster. $150-$200?

Awwwwww Doofus, I'm going to cry! To get to your level I would have to put on diapers.

Probably Art History.

To be clear, I have a high school diploma, and a fourth place trophy from our Pinewood Derby. I've taken college classes in philosophy to help with my depression, and mechanical engineering classes to become a toy designer. No degrees. I was nominally a senior, when I got kicked out for bad grades. In fairness to myself, if I had known I could've retained the slower pace of class completion I was used to, I could've graduated.

Thread that college schat. Unless you have a specific goal, and train for it....how many Barristas have college degrees? More than you would think. Literature? Mass Communications?
Only one I am proud of is "Qualified in Submarines", "SS".
I have a good friend who retired out of the Lazy B (Boeing) as Engineering Liaison...degree in Geology.
We could work down to the VocTech....all that training, apply for a job (and I interviewed too many), and don't even know which end of a wrench to hold.

Dave,
Opposite the end that fits the nut.
I did take some evening classes and could lay out roof rafters with a framing squre....once upon a time. Alas, forgot and darn near everything else!
