Happy Friday!

Here's my stuff for this week -

NS AC44C6M 4130 is about to duck under US 460 as it leads westbound 189 through Elliston, VA on the Christiansburg District

NS ES44AC 8075 leads a coal train by Control Point 'Jersey' on the CNO&TP District in Chattanooga , TN

The overcast weather is fitting as 611 passes the former NW east end shops as she returns home to Roanoke under steam, perhaps for the last time on 9/26/18
Image

NS Dash-9 9379 leads 177 through Austell, GA on the Atlanta North District.
Image

NS SD70M-2 2701 is about to duck into the Allegheny tunnel in Gallitzin, PA as it begins the descent down the east slope with eastbound stack train 24W.
Image

In very dreary conditions, NS SD60E 6985 (ex NS SD60 6675) passes the ADM mill in downtown Charlotte as it leads 192 towards Linwood,NC

The side of the 611 looks like something happened or is that just some kind of light reflection. Or maybe graffiti has been removed ??

Hondo,
I think that is a eflection of some kind. It is also on the tender, auxiliary tender and the next car.
A lot of flat sheet metal shows "wrinkles" that look similar to that.

They keep 611 polished, don't they? The ladies could do their makeup with 611's reflection.

Stringing telegraph lines along the mainline:

Image

This was underway when I shut down work on the layout a year or so ago...hoping to get back to it this fall. Have to say I'm a bit concerned about stringing lines along the layout periphery, as I can envision some overly exuberant spectator taking them down with a sweep of the hand.

Happens in real life. The Power Company just puts them back up.

In Tucson, they have replaced wood power poles with steel power poles in places where the wind snapped power poles every year.

On a model railroad, you want the wires to break easily so as not to injure you or your guests when you/they accidentally sweep your/their hand through the wires.

I bought some stretchable wire/filament at Michael's in their jewelry aisle...figured that'll give a bit before the poles separate from their bases. It'll be taut, though, so won't have any sag, which would look more realistic. That said, it's a tinplate layout...who needs realistic, lol?

I am not a fan of smoke or sound but that is really quite nice.
