I just a minute ago discovered that Lionel did what looks like a scale E-7 (parts 6-245xx). I am intrigued - are they as close to scale as the PA?

I have nefarious plans - if they are scale, I could go for a damaged, unpowered B unit for cheap to cut up. Just need the shell.

They were scale. I don't see any B units listed in the parts section of their web site and I'm not sure any of the Legacy sets were done as AB, most were AA. There are a few "A" shells but they go for $150-$200.

BTW, looking at the productions runs for the prototype, 429 "A" units vrs 82 "B" units. SP was the only road that purchased more B's than A's. Nobody bought more than 14 B units (NYC and Pennsy).

There must be a B shell out there somewhere...

Watching one for around $100 on eBay. B is better, because I can later cut them down and put a grille in for the A unit. I have noses and roofs, and one aluminum B that needs sides. I am just hoping for a damaged shell for a discount. I can afford full price if it comes to that.

That's what I call irony. UP only had 4 A's and 3 B's. Lionel even got the numbers wrong, should have been 961, 962 or 963.

Makes no difference to me; all that goes away in the sand. An E-6 B would work as well - are they scale? Did Lionel make a B? Or MTH?

E3/E6 units were released in 2017. Scale. I can't find reference to any "B" units. Only 26 prototypes were built, B&O purchased 7 of those. MTH did catalog a Premier (aka scale) B unit dummy back in 2015

Speaking of irony - there for a while the local evening news would begin each topic with the word "Ironically," - so of course I studied the topic. I am only about half smart, so I never really grasped the concept, except for when used by a playwright. I get that.

My friends use the term to denote a result that was not expected or predicted.

Fortunately, the newsfolk gave up on the term. Now I am being driven nuts by the term "you know". I can handle it once in every two sentences, but have a difficult time of it when a sentence starts "You know, I mean, you know . . ."

Back to that B unit. I am watching one at $89 - who knows? Maybe I shall jump. Irony?

I met a young cardiac surgeon the other day who used it three times in every single friggin' sentence. Education is not the key, apparently.

YOU KNOW what bothers me is these guys who use E-7 instead of E7, even after they were turned on to the Withers book! Bet you won't see that in there and YOU KNOW there's one other thing...these people who expect toy companies to produce prototypically correct engines....it's hard enough to get the brass importers to do that! Sorry, couldn't resist!

I don't have a Lionel catalog handy but is the mistake by Lionel or Bob Turner for making it E-7?
I think I recall Lionel calling their model a Trainmaster but F-M called it a Train Master. I think.
