Weekend Photos - 8/24/18

Happy Friday!
The kids have been helping me for the last 2 weeks come up with improvements to the track plan. One thing they really wanted was a 2nd train running for more action.
I decided to squeeze in a small inner loop with some 027 track. Had to reconfigure the town a bit to do so. I painted some temp roads for the new configuration yesterday. Also can't decide between the 362 barrel loader or the 364 log loader for the far spur on the outside track. There's only room for one & they keep changing their minds lol.
Picked up this 1950 vers 2046
NS SD40E 6311 shoves a westbound past MG tower on the Pittsburgh Line.
Colorful Charlotte District - NS P88 with the Reading heritage SD70ACe waits for a signal as Amtrak 77 w/ F59PH 1871 blows by on the adjacent track.
The N&W heritage unit is on home rails as it leads 16T through Singer on the Christiansburg District.
NS 820 heads eastbound towards Roanoke on the former Virginian mainline at Kumis w/ NS Dash-9 9673 leading
NJT ALP46 4628 departs Red Bank with a NY bound local train on the North Jersey Coast Line.

Nice 2046 Christopher. I've always thought that loco was one of the nicer ones from PW. Here's mine, a bit of a hodge-podge:
I got this from a guy sans tender. It was in rough shape, and had been dropped at some point, bending the cab roof down. I disassembled it and took the casting down to a friend of mine that's an automotive bodywork guy...not sure how, but he was able to get the cab roof back into place. I repainted it, than matched it up with a Williams repro 2671W which I lettered using a set of prewar Hudson decals. Fun...runs and smokes like a champ.

2046 -2056 are the best value in O gauge.

Lionel got a lot of mileage out of their prewar dies. The 226,225 and 224.
But then these were toys for children and not scale models.....

Christopher,
Arean't the log loader and barrel loader similar in footprint?
Maybe anternate the use of the two. ???

Log loader is longer by a good bit. I told them to I'd flip a coin. Barrel loader won out! We have a whole box of accessories I couldn't fit on this layout. I told them one day when get a larger space but one of them needs to move out first, so I have a while

225E has been on my list for YEARS. It would be possible to swap the tender trucks for PW ones correct ?

The postwar 'Jr' Hudsons are really great running engines. Hard to kill them

Never tried it, but you can probably just throw a postwar tender behind it.

Rather than change the truck on the prewar tender you can use a transition car. A postwar gondola of flat car is a good choice to use as one of the postwar trucks to a prewar one is easy to do. You can load the gondola of flat car with all kinds of loads. The kids will have fun with that.
That way "IF" you get more prewar cars you can run them behind the 225e.
The green passenger cars in this photo are prewar carry overs with postwar trucks. Once the metal bug bites in won't let go.
