Block-painted, dipped, then clear flat overspray:

All Tamiya acrylics this time, with a couple days to cure in between. This guy looks vaguely familiar...

I discovered a long time friend has mad figure painting skills. He did this for me. I had no idea how detailed it could be. I'm very pleased.

Wow, that is incredibly sharp! Definitely blows away the two-foot rule.

Not enough patience or eyesight left here to achieve that.

Greg, I don't see any more detail, but I see highlighting - in addition to the shading. I'm vaguely aware of dry brushing and chalk techniques, but how did your friend do his highlighting?

Roy,
I can't say for sure but I'll find out. We've been more business friends than friends friends, if that makes sense for a long time. He was into this dungeons and dragons figure painting. Most of them are pewter or die cast. The discussion came up on the job one day and he had this figure that had a black cloak lined with skulls. The skulls were very small and amazingly finely detailed. I asked him if he would paint a few figures and the rest is history. Here is another one he did.

Okay, if you want to ratchet it up a bit, here's a few pic's from the 2015 MFCA (Miniature Figure Collectors of America). These are 54mm, so a man stands 2-1/2 inches tall:

I'm pretty sure they did not use the "dip" method, lol...

I go to this show every year, and the ranks are definitely thinning. Still, unbelievable stuff...true craftsmen (and women).

This looks to me that these figures are of a quality that is fit to be displayed in a museum.
Now that I think about it a little they are better than most figures seen in museums.
They are like Murphs creations in that if a Murph scene were put on my layout it would
make everything else look to be of much poorer quality. Again like Murphs scenes, they
are up-front and to be enjoyed articles.

To make it short----WOW!!!!!

A friend of mine in the UK painted and based these for me, I think mostly so he could show off:

Some of the Iron Duke's finest, off for a slog in the Belgian countryside (15mm or 1/100 scale).

Really nice.
Can you put the six behind each other in files?
That should be eight + pennies long.

Yes, you can reconfigure the bases to represent in-column. I'm noticing the guys at the far end have green plumes on their shakos rather than red/white...that probably is significant for their position in the line (or my buddy is just toying with me). There was a time I'd know this stuff, but that, as well as my ability to paint at this scale, is fading fast...

Healey,

Some real *ss kickers there! Absolutely first rate talent.

Anything I did would look like I was using a 4 inch brush! Wait a minute...maybe that was the problem!

I just noticed that Sarge must have posed for this.

Picked up a few Arttista figures awhile back. Sarge soldered this guy together for me...awesome.

He's got some decent detail on him...I'm going to try the block-paint-and-dip method again, after cleaning off a bit of remaining flash.
